skye, to random German

i have a problem with my cats.
over the past month, they have been getting one brand of cat food, and eating it with no issue. they were happy.

then i ran out because the package took too long, and so for 2 days, i gave them the rest of the kibble i still had.

and now the cat food is here, and they are not. eating it.

like, at all.

i’ve let them starve for 24 hours, they didn’t touch it. i’ve mixed tube treat under the food, they don’t touch it. eventually i gave them the last spoonful of kibble, and that was the only thing they’ve eaten in the past 3 days, apart from a few licks of tube treat.

this exact food was FINE a week ago.

what do i do? i have NO money left. i can NOT buy them any other food.

@skye Honestly, I’d say just put your preferred fund-me info up and let us know how much the kibble they want is and let us help. No biggie. Cats are stupidly stubborn and I’ve never been able to force mine to eat anything they don’t like.

@skye oh ok, I’m so sorry. I cannot get mine to eat her prescription kidney disease food, so I know how difficult and frustrating it can be. I wish I could help more. Just don’t give up for now—they’ll have to give in sometime.

I feel like the dumbest digital designer, but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to optimize my social media graphics so they don’t look like pixelated garbage. I’ve read tutorials and watched YouTube videos, but whatever I’m doing is clearly wrong and it’s making me feel crazy. Is it because I’m making web graphics in Indesign? Is it the resolution? Is 150 not good enough? Too good? I’ve been doing this for years but I still can’t figure this out.

@airwhale Thanks. I believe it’s like you said—indesign isn’t the way to go. It just sucks because I have a beautiful template all set up with a script that exports and titles each artboard as .pngs. I’ll suck it up and rebuild it in Illustrator, but it’ll be messy and clunky and make me sad. Boo, Adobe. Do all the irrational things I want.

@rm4 I’ve been using indesign for web graphics because I have to make 20 unique layouts of the exact same design for their social, National-provided website template and email heroes. Frankly, indesign just handles all those repeating graphic instances better than trying to do 20 art boards in Illustrator. My Mac is older and not the most powerful rock out there so it seemed like an awesome fix until it wasn’t.

@rm4 I export as png, 150 ppi. But the graphics also have large fields of flat color plus text and a few other simple vector elements, and none of that lends itself well to web unless it’s an svg. I swear it was exporting just fine for quite a while and it’s only recently when it started gooping up. But then, the company rebranded to the whole flat color thing recently too, and that might have been the start of it, I’m not sure.

@airwhale oh no, these are just social media graphics and hero images for the website and Salesforce. I started out in web design 15 years ago and it’s fun but I don’t have the brain for coding and front end design just gets me in trouble.

Awake. Definitely need to take it easy today. I may have gotten overstimulated some yesterday and I didn't sleep as well as I had hoped last night when I went to bed. Took a long time to fall asleep and then had a long awake interlude during the night before finally falling back asleep.

It was a good day yesterday but one thing I recognize now is that good overstimulation can be a problem just as much as bad overstimulation. And good overstimulation can sneak you past your limits...

Sometimes I wish the magical brain fairy that absolutely exists would make me neurotypical just long enough to figure out how to make my house pretty. I’m not asking for an interior design degree or anything (although that would be nice); I just want my home to not look like the inside of a dirty thrift store run by sad slobs.

@silverseams @sewing it’s actually cherry that has pink icing and red sprinkles! It is odd that strawberry doesn’t.
