We are not saying that King Charles should starve himself and his family, and we are not asking for trinkets. But we believe we can sit around a table and discuss what can be made available for reparative justice.”

It is worth noting that even under the “high migration” scenarios given by the CSO, which assume a net migration of 30,000 people a year from 2017 onwards – a figure that includes all immigration, not just refugees, and not just from Africa –it would take more than 130 years to reach a figure of 4 million migrants.

Besides English and Spanish, German is the most-spoken language in 13 US states — that's more than any other language in the country.

In nine cities in the western US, Austronesian Tagalog is the most commonly used language.

When it comes to major southwest cities, Chinese, Vietnamese and Arabic are the most-spoken.

Chinese and Russian are both prevalent languages across New York neighborhoods.

The Digital Services Act (DSA), Europe’s sweeping attempt to regulate big tech that was passed in October 2022, comes into force for more than a dozen of the biggest tech companies today. The new laws set clear rules on content moderation, user privacy and transparency that online platforms must now follow.

not able to sleep last night thanks to the fever I can't kick, I idiotically decided to watch Threads (1984) in the middle of the night. I'd mistakenly thought it's just a low-budget, British version of The Day After, but it's so much more horrifying. a far superior film.

Watched Patriot Games today for the first time in like 15 years. Still holds up quite well. I love when movie characters don’t act dumb in life or death situations and Patriot Games is replete with smart characters.

    Samuel Jackson 👍
    Sean Bean 👍
    James Earl Jones 👍👍
    Harrison Ford 👍👍👍👍

@gedeonm I like the Jack Ryan show on Amazon. I was intrigued that they used the names of real countries, instead of the usual Hollywood bollox, of a made up country name. Its Popcorn action entertainment. But very well made.

I still think the England Ladies will take home the World Cup. So Bobby Moore and all the rest of those footballing Saints can take a well deserved rest.
I remember when Ronnie Delaney was Irelands only Gold Medal Olympic winner.
And he was dragged out every four years to the call of," Have ya got it. Did ya bring it with ya Ronnie."
So yea, its time for a change.

This sudden U-turn only became inevitable because the UK didn’t have the capacity to issue UKCA marks. Varga’s products are still waiting for a new product safety mark after a year. “The inspectors were overwhelmed.” Worse, his suppliers in the EU couldn’t get UKCA marks registered either.
Now he has to tell suppliers and customers they need never have bothered.

I said I wouldn’t travel abroad again this year but I’m now going to visit my brother and his family in Rotterdam in August.

Ferry Dublin-Holyhead, train Holyhead-London Euston, overnight in London and then St Pancras-Rotterdam Centraal the following evening. Return is with my brother and his wife in a Nissan Leaf EV on the Dunkirk-Rosslare DFDS ferry.

The failure by British sociology and migration research to take seriously the experiences of the Irish as predominantly white migrants, meant that recent white, European migrants in Britain, especially Poles, have tended to be regarded as an entirely new and unprecedented phenomenon. The challenges experienced by white migrants have been largely overlooked because migrants have been seen by British academics as people who have black and brown skins.
