Searching the Unreal C++ docs is a horrible experience so far. I don't understand why there isn't a simple C++ filter dropdown for searches, or an option to only show C++ results?? Surely it's there and I'm just not understanding the site properly? Even if I choose Documentation/API docs from the list, I don't get C++ results. I feel like I'm missing something obvious. I just want to search the C++ API without all the results from random forum posts or Blueprints etc.. is there a trick? 🤷♂️
@psychicparrot42 whoa, sudden flashback to the time I printed out the core UnrealScript classes of UE1 and went through them all with a highlighter & wrote notes in the margins.
screw making the beginning of your game last, make your bosses last so that you can use all the features of your game engine to make them as interesting as possible
indie gamedev is spending 3-5 years working on a game with probably at least a couple other people and then you release it and if youre fairly lucky you gross like 20-80 thousand US dollars which works out to $5000 a person a year before tax. it's a very cool and sustainable industry
I need to get my mind off the bad. Anything good going on tonight for anyone? Feel free to share things your excited about or happy about or just cool stuff you've come across recently
@aeva I could only find it on Steam, but you'll want to use a controller if you can.
It's like a modern take on NES Zelda, with a bit more guidance and Metroidvania type unlocking. Also the player and all the monsters are little pew pew aeroplanes doing twinstick shmup battles.
Can you help me find reference music to match this mockup? I'm looking for something that's both SEGA blue sky and grand adventure, probably in a style that evokes 8bit (eg melody on simple waveforms).
@arstechnica I was gonna argue that that's not what Gamification means, but then I realised rebranding unpleasant things in the language of games is always what it meant.
@mcc Every time I think about modular synthesis I end up annoyed that I'd have to wait for things to physically arrive, and an hour later I'm goofing around with software synthesis again.
Some day I'll explore WebMIDI and patch my controller through to WebAudio and never be seen again.
That's been on my todo list for about (checks watch) 26 years now.
It's pretty good.
I was surprised how refreshing I found it to just rumble through a corridor shooter.
Blast the nasties, collect the shinies, and boop the McGuffins until all the McGuffins are booped, then a quick interlude on the map screen to see my progress march ahead 15% before doing it all again.
Hmm. So. Ages ago I followed a news journalist on here 'cos I thought following is encouraging, and like with Twitter if journalists post here then everyone else will follow and hooray we'll have de-privatized the world's town square.
So it seemed like a good thing.
But now they're posting enraging stuff that really isn't important and, uh, actually I don't think I want that in my feed. Probably nobody does.
i sure hope nobody figures out that kitsune tails save files are just a proprietary binary version of json thats fairly human readable and so easy to reverse engineer and hacks them for their own purposes 🥺
I placed some activated alumina dessicant in with my spool of Carbon Fiber Nylon a few hours ago, and yeah so far it is working far better than silica gel. We'll see where things are by the end of the weekend. I might finally be able to print.
Not shown, after taking the first photo, I barely had the Polybox open for a minute, when it shot up to 30% humidity. I imagine that recovered quicker than the other 4%.
@TomF That brings up an interesting question of whether there are operations that can't be performed by a Turing machine and if they might be necessary for some interpretation of AI (eg whatever we've decided Artificial General Intelligence is this week). But yes of course the whole conversation has now been obscured by marketing speak.
