#WritersCoffeeClub 3/4: Do you use semicolons? Correctly?
I really don’t like the current disdain for semicolons, and I’m absolutely not going to stop using them.
My reading of Kate Atkinson’s Shrines of Gaiety (usually an author I love) was seriously spoiled because someone had obviously been through replacing semicolons with commas. Er, guys, if you’re going to do that, you need to rewrite the whole sentence. Or better, leave well alone.
Semicolons for ever!
My heart is breaking. The 35yo old pony my daughter loves at the riding school fell ill. Didn’t want to eat today. Had to get painkillers to start eating but is very tired. Daughter spent the afternoon the be around the pony. Tomorrow the owner will decide what to do next. Tears in my eyes thinking of next step… both for the pony and my daughter.
#WritersCoffeeClub 12: Do you prefer to write on a desktop, laptop, typewriter, pen and paper, quill and parchment, blood and stone?
Blood and stone are ideal, but since the former is harder to come by (at least of any quality), I go with my laptop.
When I was in high school and university, I wrote (more like scribbled) with paper and pen, then later transferred the text to the computer. But I don't really like writing on paper unless it's to compose a letter to my pen pals.
@Ink_Soul I think my writing is a bit better when I write with pen and paper first, but I am impatient and type much faster than I can write, so I often just go straight to my tablet-with-keyboard.

Hey, #WritingCommunity, I have a grammar question that research hasn't answered. Would you say, "each step takes him further away from the house" or "each step takes him farther away from the house"? #grammar
@shplink Thank you! The character in the sentence I'm thinking of in my manuscript is moving both literally and figuratively a greater distance from something.
