We have a more efficient way to produce hydrogen, which is using nagural gas. That’s obviously a bad idea. You can’t change the laws of physics, producing hydrogen from water and electricity just takes that much energy.

From what I can tell, changes are just uploaded immediately. I think If someone adds wrong data, another contributor can revert it.

15 games for $70 are enough to save $1000, which is definitely enough for a good gaming PC. After buying a PS5 and the cheapest PS Plus subscription, paid yearly (cause that’s the cheapest option per month) for a little more than 8 years, you’re also at $1000. With the most expensive PS Plus option it would only take a little more than 4 years.

They have a bigger catalog? I kinda assumed that Spotify had the biggest catalog by far because they’re the most popular one.

In GNOME you just need to log in with your Nextcloud account in the system settings and it will add it in the file manager

Fisch,

It definitely should be. I thought that the API just didn’t support it but apparently it does.

From what I heard, they didn’t pay that themselves but they filed bankrupcy or something so the government payed it for them

And now they changed the name to HyperOS (my dad has a phone with it installed and is constantly complaining about it)

Somehow those anime trackers are allowed to use the images too

I really love GNOME but the developers keep doing shit like this and I don’t get why. Their reasoning for why they won’t allow custom accent colors and only predefined ones was also stupid and then they just said that if people keep asking for custom colors, they won’t implement it at all.

Fisch, (edited )
@Fisch@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

The reasoning for only allowing predefined colors was that, apparently, developers need to be able to test against every color and that Android’s Material You is a total mess. I disagree with both of that, Material You seems to be working quite fine (I’ve also made apps myself) and I don’t get what developers would need to test with accent colors. I couldn’t voice my opinion tho cause then the whole thing would’ve been canned.

Nice demonstration of why mastodon's dominance is problematic

See the conversions here:
https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/pull/4628
and
https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/federating-the-content-of-posts-note-articles-and-character-limits/4087

AFAICT, mastodon's decisions, which are arguably problematic (on which see: https://lemmy.ml/post/14973403) are literally trickling down to other platforms and infecting how they federate with each other as they dance around mastodon's quirks in different ways.

It seems like masto is ruining "the standard" with its gravity.

Isn’t there a group of people now that’s working to improve the ActivityPub spec and actually define things so applications don’t implement it differently?

Fisch,
@Fisch@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

That’s not what I meant. I read at some point that there’s a group of people trying to build a wiki or something, so others, who want to make fediverse software, can look up best-practices and the like. They also wanted to make demo software to test the federation against, so Mastodon doesn’t have to be used for that.

Fisch,
@Fisch@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

That’s kind of what I meant too, if there’s a standardised and correct way to implement things, that’s how projects should implement it instead of trying to do it the “Mastodon” way

Rabbit R1 is Just an Android App (lemmy.world)

See, it turns out that the Rabbit R1 seems to run Android under the hood and the entire interface users interact with is powered by a single Android app. A tipster shared the Rabbit R1’s launcher APK with us, and with a bit of tinkering, we managed to install it on an Android phone, specifically a Pixel 6a....

Is it that difficult to run Mastodon over Docker?

I am used to simple things running on Docker (Jellyfin, Nextcloud, etc.) I am looking at running my own personal Mastodon instance (maybe share it with a few friends and family), but I like using Docker. Looking at install guides, the steps required seem to be much harder than just editing docker-compose.yml and running the...

Can we all agree that whatever version of predictive text we have nowadays is crap, and has been for a long time?

I’m sick of random capitalisations mid sentence. I’m sick of common words being replaced by less common ones or even downright nonsense. I’m sick of it taking three attempts to successfully get the word I want. I swear it’s been like this for five years or more. Can we have a better version yet, or at least the old one...

A lot of countries are doing just fine using only renewables to replace energy generation from fossil fuels. Nuclear is really expensive while renewables are the cheapest. There’s just no reason to use nuclear.

Fisch,
@Fisch@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I didn’t say countries that already successfully did it, I meant countries that are in the process of doing so. Germany, for example, has no nuclear energy and is getting 60-70% of its energy from renewables. There are countries that are already further along but building renewables takes time. Building a nuclear power plant also takes years but you get nothing from it until it’s finished.

Fisch,
@Fisch@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

No, that’s just false. Germany has been steadily reducing the amount of coal they use in favor of renewables and could easily sustain itself with the energy it produces but sometimes it’s cheaper to buy from other countries. Most of the time that’s wind energy from the nordic countries but sometimes it’s nuclear from France. France is paying billions of Euros to subsidize nuclear tho. Germany also only imported 2% of its energy in 2023 and 25% of that (so 0,5% from the total), was from French nuclear energy.
