A difficult person doing their best to be less unpleasant, while remaining funny enough to use humour as a coping mechanism; wish me luck.

Covering an area “roughly equivalent to a grain of sand held at arms length”, and yet the physics involved mean that there are some lensing effects causing things to appear closer apparently.

I’m starting to think that photographing the primeval chaos predating our own planet isn’t so simple.

Was it the same moose?

I shed a tear for the star-crossed love of a lady moose and a wayward EMT.

Ever since becoming a parent this kind of tragedy really gets to me. I’m glad I don’t have a gun in the house anymore, at least. Consider doing the same, if you’ve got babies. They can be clever before they’re smart, it’s not their fault they wanted to impress their friends.

Trigger locks are laughable, or were when I was researching this. I’ve left my revolver to family back in the states (as this one cannot be made UK compliant), but I’m still getting good use out of the fingerprint safe I got for it.

I do miss shooting sometimes, and it was fun to make and test a new cartridge between 45 and 454 Casull, but that’s all behind me now.

Good extra layer, wouldn’t use it as a sole safety measure though!

I plan to, as appropriate. It’ll be less commonplace now we’ve emigrated to the UK.

Gradually_Adjusting,
@Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world avatar

I wouldn’t say I emigrated for any one reason, but fewer guns was one of the… many.

That’s for her to know :)

I do feel like the media coverage of knife crime is overblown. The violent crime rate here is pretty low, and yet you have to be an adult to buy a seam ripper. Knife sales aren’t the reason for rises in violent crime, inequality is. Hopefully we can begin to address that with a new administration.

Russia’s War Machine Revs Up as the West’s Plan to Cap Oil Revenues Sputters (www.nytimes.com)

The United States and its allies in the Group of 7 nations set two goals in 2022 when they enacted a novel plan to cap the price of Russian oil: restrict Moscow’s ability to profit from its energy exports while allowing its oil to continue flowing on international markets to prevent a global price shock....

If Ukraine sinks an empty Russian oil tanker, I will donate £50 more.

I mean, I probably will sooner or later, but it’s something to hang my hat on.

Grab any two factions with competing interests, loosely define some scenario where they’re narrowly deadlocked, hook the group in via a scheming interloper who has mysterious (TBD) motives. Hash out all details by yes-anding. If ever there’s a lull, or I need a climax, the current underdog makes an unexpected power play.

I love this idea. Steam library sharing would be amazing if it can be seamless.

The pound weakens a lot, in response to financial crisis, and it hasn’t been trending upwards in the long term; crisis is a crucial part of this economic system. I wonder if we could expect the pound to lose its usefulness to billionaires if it sinks below the dollar for good. Sounds doomy, but it could pave the way for an EU re-entry.

Privatisation has been tried even more as an economic theory in America, and there it has failed even harder. We know where that path leads. Take back the buses, take back the trains, the waterways, all of it.

Ah Lemmy, where even agreement is a point of contention. I truly am home. ☺️
