(Crosspost from /c/ttrpgs) I’m thinking of making a Blades in the Dark community. Would anybody be into to that?

I don’t really know where to begin with moderation and I have limited access to the internet with my current living situation. If anyone has any suggestions on if this is a good idea or if any of you would be interested in joining such a group I’d love to hear from you, thanks! :)

Hyperi0n,

Wow! That is a lot of history on the web to have actually lived through. I started on Facebook of all things, my parents lied about my age to get me an account where I mostly just played games. I was on and off for years, trying to connect with people, share opinions and ideas, and get chased off the site by the mobs of angry people would would harass me whenever I posted something.

I messed with Twitter, and Snapchat (both were as brain dead as Facebook) nothing really connected with me, until I found Reddit. I found the site in my early teens after watching channels like EmKay and I subscribed to all of babies first Reddit subs. I used the site for many years but it was frustrating. I would ask questions or share my opinion on something, and basically just get ignored, or attacked by deranged users who wouldn't even answer my question but insult me for being a n00b or just debase my character based on an opinion (stupid stuff like if you like Darth Vader you're a n@zi) or there were so many rules, SO many rules! There were certain subs I frequented that had over one hundred rules, and I would try to post over and over and over again but there would be some rule that I broke, like having the tags on the other side from the title, or misspelling tags, or not using the official mandatory start word like aita, or my favorite, referring to the group as the 'hivemind'. Whatever!

It just felt geeky and tyrannical more so than Facebook even. I got tired of getting downvoted into oblivion post posting basically anything so I left, only coming back a few days ago to find the crap show going on. I had heard people say that the Fediverse is a nicer place than Reddit so I went here and I'm not regretting it in the slightest.

I never experienced the internet during the old king of the hill days, with AOL and IRCs (though I wish I did) but this place has a nice, retro feel to it that is just delicious. My parents used to talk about their time on AOL and how everyone was nice in those days. They'd get random people wishing them a happy birthday, just because, imagine that! I missed those days even though I never lived them (try to figure that out) and I think this is my equivalent.

Hyperi0n,

Ooohh I didn't think of that!

Hyperi0n,

May I ask what you mean by the "food truck version of Reddit"?

Hyperi0n,

That's a cool way to look at it! "Sssk this is the SS Lemm.ee hailing the SS Behaw over, over."

Hyperi0n,

Yeah that's a valid concern. I was thinking of making a blades in the dark community but a lot of people pointed out that there already isn't much content on these rpg communities as it is. So splitting it up would be pointless.

intro from a reddit migrant

So with reddit on fire I decided to jump ship and move on. Found lemmy and kbin. Then I found here. I was fairly active on the reddit for ttrpgs. As for what i play. I don't like d&d rules so i generally play other games, ninja crusade, fate, fantasy age, iron claw, I am also im a final fantasy d6 game. So I have lots of...

Hyperi0n,

Glad to see a fellow Reddugee! I'm also in to a lot of non-dnd games (to the dismay of the RPG community in my local area) Pathfinder is my favorite dnd-like game. My favorite rpgs however are Fatecore, Forged in the Dark, Genesys, Cypher System, Deadlands, and FFG Starwars (but I also played the D20 version and had a blast with my friends). I really hope to see you around here, this is a pretty cool group!

Hyperi0n,

Hahahahaha! Love it! Basically a Ddos without a botnet. Just an army of people fed up with u/spez. Sending a message to the technocrats!

Hyperi0n,

Yeah, I'm really lost as to what OP is talking about? I've been here since the blackouts and have seen nothing like what they're talking about. The difference between here and Reddit is day and night. I literally saw a post about the former president and people weren't arguing in some knockdown drag out like they would on literally any other social media platform. If there is any toxicity, which of course it's ridiculous to say that there's none, then it be must be rare because I have seen downright amazing interactions and honest and constructive discussions on Lemmy and Kbin. I'm sure there might be cracks in the fediverse and I might see them after the honeymoon phase is over but honestly I think the fediverse is the step in the right direction for the internet as a whole.

I'm **really ** wanting to be nice and approach this site differently so please pardon me if I sound rude but OP sounds like a drama queen. We don't need any of that on this site. I'm glad their gone. People like that are never happy anywhere and just suck the life out of the room like a power vacuum and spit out negative attention right in our faces. They bring it on themselves. Please let me know if I'm off my rocker on this one guys, and gals. I'd love to hear your side of this whole thing but that's just my general gut feeling.

yeah, I think I’m done here.

Okay, bye! ;)

Hyperi0n, (edited )

Thank you for your feedback, but I disagree. I feel you're making a lot of assumptions. You're assuming that OP is a part of a marginalized community which is quite possible but not confirmed, and you are also assuming that I am not a part of one myself, which I am.

I have faced severe discrimination, emotional, and physical abuse simply for being the racial minority in school growing up, both by teachers and students based for the color of my skin. I'm also a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and an open bisexual in a regressive red state. I was literally just told I am unbiblical by my skills coach. I'm super worried about basic things like PDAs with my partner for fears we might be harassed in public. It shouldn’t surprise you that it gets incredibly exhausting just trying to live a normal life, you denying what I see is real - that makes it worse by calling me names.

It is not my opinion that this person is a drama queen because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or political beliefs. I just believe they are very pessimistic and doom and gloom and I'm having a hard time confirming what they've said as real. I'm on Kbin a lot and have not ever seen anti-trans posts, or ones that weren't met with absolute vitriol and down voted into oblivion to be shortly removed by the mods.

In fact if you look at one of these comments, someone had a theory they weren't actually on Kbin but on another site connected to Kbin? You should go look for that comment I can't find it so please it with a grain of salt. Many other people are calling out OP for being severely negative and doom and gloom, and also saying that they've never seen this type of content before.

And I think being a part of marginalized community or not would have no effect on whether it is seen. Bigots and hateful people want to spread their hate to every knook of the internet they find. And me and many other people (including LGBTQ and few trans folks in the comments) haven't seen this stuff. Although there is apparently a Lemmygrad instance, so that pro-Russia which sucks. I am not denying it existed but I find it weird that they are seeing all of this bad, hateful stuff when me and other marginalized folk haven't.

Yes it was rude to call them a drama queen, but I'm not going to apologize for it anymore than I have. It is my opinion that they are. Just like it is yours that I am making bullshit smooth brain comments. I think we should just disagree and go our separate ways.

Hyperi0n,

Man I really want to run a Blades in the Dark Game! Mine would take place a little further in the future when a never ending winter occurs and the plays have to navigate Dosvol as it slow gets enveloped by ice and snow and maybe find a way to stop it ;). It would be heavily inspired by Frostpunk with a massive heat generator in Brightstone and smaller steam cores placed throughout most of the districts.

Is Bromite no longer supported?

The app hasn't been updated in six months according to F-Droid when I used the official Bromite repo. I mean no disrespect to the Dev I'm just concerned about security vulnerabilities in the browser. Bromite was considered one of the best in the privacy space and I'd hate to see it go. If anybody could shed some light on this...

Hyperi0n,

Thanks for the info! I'll be sure to read it.

What FOSS browsers, do you use on a daily basis on both your mobile and computer for privacy and security, and what measures have you taken to further harden your browser (if any).

Me, I have a low threat model so I mainly try to stay away from proprietary stuff when possible (Chrome, Edge ect) I use an eclectic mix of browsers....

Hyperi0n,

I can't find information at all on Fennec F-Droid because of the blackouts, could someone tell me more about Fennec F-Droid. First of all, wasn't it a dead project? I remember it no longer being maintained. Secondly, that it tracks and reports activity in the anti features section. If this is true then should I use something else. I'm really frustrated that I can't find this info because all I find on searches is reddit links. If anyone can shed some light that would be great! I heard a lot of good things about it and IF it's safe I'd love to use it.

Hyperi0n,

Thanks I'll check this out.

Hyperi0n,

FOSS, Free and Open Source Software.

Does anyone think that the Fediverse would make a much better next phase for the web then all of this Metaverse bull?

I'd much rather see sites like Lemmy, PeerTube, and Mastodon see widespread adoption then the dystopian cyberpunk fever dream in the head of Zuckerburg. Did you not read the novel dude? It's a freaking warning! That's like Jeff Bezos reading Fahrenheit 451 and going "holy crap dude, gotta make that a reality like, yesterday!" I...

Hyperi0n,

I like that! I've called it the Federated sites before instead of the Fediverse.

Hyperi0n,

Cool.

Hyperi0n,

Yes the Metaverse started with Neal Stevenson's Snow Crash novel but I never said otherwise? Fahrenheit 451 was an example revolving around book burning which would be ironic because Bezos owns kindle. The idea is the a central dystopian theme being idolized by a tech mogul so unhinged they don't realize it's a warning.

Hyperi0n,

I have a really strange question. How do you access the sidebar on the Jerboa for Lemmy app? I really want to read the rules but can't find them. I'm sure it's easier on desktop I just don't have access to that right now. If anyone could help out I'd really appreciate it!

Hyperi0n,

Thanks for getting back to me so quick! Yep I did that I know the rules now. Very simple, I like them.
