No, because Lemmy is not a platform, its a software that can be run on a server, and that server running the code is called an instance. The instance is where the platform is. An instance can communicate with other instances, which is called federation. Instances that are deemed problematic by another instance owner can become "defederated" meaning communication is cut off. One well known instance being defederated is lemmygrad.ml, which is an instance that promotes authoritarian-left political views. Another instance is exploding-heads.com (don't know if I spelt it correctly, I don't care), which has far-right content.
TLDR: Lemmy is not a singular platform, but an interconnected network of servers (instances). Lemmy will not "die" anytime soon, but certain instances can die.
Does it solve the issue of some information not being federated properly? Display name updates, profile description, edited posts/comments, and deletions are out of sync in many instances, resulting in wildly different versions throught the fediverse. These things trigger my OCD so much, I hope this updates fixes that.
Hello Devs. I'm not sure if you've noticed but some times the are discrepencies between different instances, for example, updated Display Names doesn't federate, profile descriptioms, edited post/comments, deleted post/comments are not reflected in some instances. Does this update fix these issues? If not, when will these problems be fixed? And will the fix also retroactively sync changed that were made before the update has been applied?
It's obvious that Reddit as a company has no respect for its users and less than that for the mods. It's a thankless, difficult job that isn't even a paid position. I think a lot of us have probably quit real jobs for less bs than Reddit has pulled....
Power. If they move here, not everyone is gonna move here. Eventually spaz will replace them with new mods if they keep telling people to migrate. They don't feel powerful if only a small number of people migrated with them. Additionally, Lemmy instances are much smaller than the entirety of reddit, Lemmy instances are also not run by a corporation. What this means is that instance owners are less likely to tolerate abusive mods. They stay on reddit for the power.
On June 12, 2023, nothing happened on Reddit Square Forum. The so called "Moderator Purge" is a hoax invented by communist/fascist Lemmy propagandists. Reddit is a great platform, the best on the entire world wide web. Lemmy is a backward spam-filled/virus-infested/ad-ridden website filled with communists and fascists. Long live Chairman CEO Spaz.

This isn't a false dillemma. Imagine if the way the machine predicts is by copying your brain and putting it in a simulated reality, then the copy of you gets asked to choose which boxes to take, the exact same way and be given the exact same information. Under this assumption, the machine could predict with 100% accuracy what the real you would've chosen.
How do you know you are even the real you. You could just be the machine's simulation of the real you.
There is a dilemma and the dilemma is about how much you want to trust the machine.
If (Box A Taken = True)
{place ($0) in Box B}
else
{place ($1,000,000,000) in Box B}
Machine doesnt care if you also take Box B, it only cares if Box A is one of the boxes taken. If you take no boxes, Box B would still have a billion dollars, although thats kinda dumb choice from a gameshow host's perspective.
I mean, honestly, the US isn't that bad when you compare it to the entire world, it's only when you compare it amonst other developed countries, that you find it very low tier.

Is Lemmy more likely to succeed than Voat? Why or why not?
I don't remember what caused the Voat's origin, except it involved Reddit HQ. And then it went under in 2020....

I really like it here. However, almost 90% of my feed is either posts about Reddit, or Lemmy/kbin meta analysis. We need actual content and communities over here!
And yes I understand the irony in this post
I found a major communication problem with public perception of Lemmy. they seem to think a community is tied to a particular instance (www.reddit.com)
This is a big problem. It creates the illusion that /c/cats on one particular instance is the real /c/cats....
