JoBo,

This isn’t the “flew on his jet a few times” sort of associates, they were named in Giuffre’s court case.

The documents are part of a settled civil lawsuit alleging Epstein’s one-time paramour Ghislaine Maxwell facilitated the sexual abuse of Virginia Giuffre. Terms of the 2017 settlement were not disclosed.

Low effort version of this post:

Nice try, Andrew.

JoBo,

I haven’t used a headphone jack for eleventy million years, I’m surprised so many people remember that they existed.

JoBo,

Bus lanes are more costly than cycle lanes. But cyclists can use bus lanes and they reduce the space available to cars, making the bus and cycling both look much more attractive by comparison. We can kill all three birds with that one stone.

JoBo,

Hydrogen is ‘pure’ electric.

The issue with hydrogen is that it can be colours other than green. Green hydrogen is used to store the excess from renewables, and is more like a battery than a fuel. Other colours use fossil fuel, sometimes with a desperate plea to believe that they will actually capture the CO2 produced in making it.

Green hydrogen is (potentially) a fantastic solution for transit, especially heavy transit… The jury is still out for cars but Toyota is one of the few taking that route and it’s important. Hydrogen is much lighter than batteries and refuelling is similar to petrol cars (ie quick).

The problem to be solved is leaks. More than about 5% leakage cancels out the benefits because hydrogen makes methane hang around for longer.

Biden is dramatically out of touch with voters on Gaza. He may lose because of it | Moira Donegan (www.theguardian.com)

Many voters believe, with good reason, that none of this would have happened without Biden’s assent. Biden has continued to speak of Israel’s attack on Palestinian civilians using the absurd language of “self-defense”. He has insulted Jewish Americans and the memory of the Holocaust by invoking them to justify the...

JoBo,

Yeah, if you’re going to comment you would, ideally:

  1. read the article
  2. comprehend what it is saying
  3. respond to it

Knee-jerk hand-waving is not useful. It’s worse than just a waste of your time and ours, you are actively alienating everyone you desperately need to hold their nose and vote for Biden.

What are you trying to achieve here?

JoBo,

Obediently voting for the least worst option means you eventually run out of good options. <- we are here

The conundrum is working out how you force those options to get better without accelerationists getting to test out their theories for real (again).

I would respectifully suggest that “shut the fuck up and vote” does not cut it.

JoBo,

Alienating the people you need to hold their nose and vote for Biden is exactly what you claim you don’t want.

Is Biden winning less important to you than posting like a smug cunt who is in no danger from fascism and looks forward to being able say “I told you so.”

Muppet.

JoBo,

The letter was published at the time. It is not hard to find.

I don’t know what country you are from but you know you’re not from round here. If you don’t recognise the name, it is a lot quicker to look it up than post about how you don’t recognise the name.

JoBo,

New cars are too expensive for the vast majority of people. Policies like this are intended to get more (new) EVs on the road now so that in 5, 10, 15 years’ time there are affordable EVs available for those who buy secondhand.

It’s not a good policy. A hefty subsidy to the upper middle class which assumes private vehicles are part of a sustainable future (they’re not). Better to increase VAT on non-EVs, tax non-EV company cars at a punitive rate, buy only EVs for public services.

And put a shitload of money into public transport which is free at the point of use. Focus driverless tech on ‘last mile’ trips (getting people to and from public transport hubs). Plus community pool EVs for those trips which are impossible by public transport no matter how good it is.

Any ‘green’ policy focused on getting more of any kind of car on the road will fail to achieve its ‘green’ aim. They’re just finding ways to shovel more money at the relatively well off and pretend it’s good.

JoBo,

Voters don’t get to choose who is on the ballot paper. Billionaires do.

JoBo,

It was not debated in 2021. It will be debated in October 2023.

The govt response in 2021 was because it reached the lower threshold (10,000?) for a response. Now it’s over the 100,000 required for a debate.

Want to make a T-Shirt and to know if it's offensive to Brits alike

So, I was spacing out while waiting for my next class in college and had this idea and wanted to know what a British person would think of it. I wanted to make a T-Shirt with the outline of the Falkland Islands filled with the Union Jack, and on the top, or top-left corner, a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II smiling from Heaven...

JoBo,

Exactly the kind of kitsch fascist Brits love bedecking themselves in and that liberals love laughing at. It would go down a storm with all concerned. No idea what you have against Argentinians, mind.

JoBo, (edited )

She has used her considerable platform to make trans lives worse in many ways, not just with regard to sport.

Because she is a transphobic piece of shit, you see.

JoBo,

She’s a transphobic piece of shit who abuses the concept of intersectionality to claim eternal victimhood for middle-class white women. Empty-brained narcissist.

JoBo,

You have absolutely no evidence that this is true, you’re just parroting after-the-fact propaganda while entirely ignoring the good science on offer in this thread.

Those boots must be real tasty, huh?

JoBo,

When I was born, married women were barred from most white collar jobs and women did not have the right to their own bank accounts, decades before rape within marriage was formally recognised as a crime.

If you are old enough to remember this era, you should realise that singling out these behaviours as somehow “Muslim” is bizarre.

I appreciate that that might not have been your intent (although it is certainly the subtext of this thread).

JoBo, (edited )
JoBo,

I remember 2016 very well. They took their vote for granted and fucked themselves up. They still haven’t learnt anything from that.

JoBo,

This campaign is about the primaries, not the general election. They have not told anyone to vote for Trump.

The Dems took voters for granted in 2016 and got what they deserved. They should be thanking this campaign but shooting the messenger is so much easier, so they won’t.

JoBo,

You’re reading “both sides”?

Work on your reading comprehension. This sort of braindead centrism should have died 8 years ago

JoBo,

Centrist Dems so completely certain that they are right, any disagreement must be a conspiracy. Fish hook theory strikes again.

JoBo,

You’re entirely ignoring network effects. No one is saying Amazon should have made a loss indefinitely, or at all. They’re saying that they deliberately made a loss to lock customers and businesses into their platform.

Network effects matter a great deal and I gave up half way through this article because I couldn’t find any sign at all that you recognised this. It’s liberal garbage: “Hey kids, here’s how the world works if you entirely ignore power”.

Hopeless. Sorry.
