JoshuaSlowpoke777,

Talos Principle. The VR version of the first game, haven’t gotten around to the second game yet. I love the puzzles (when I don’t struggle with timing running past mines), and it’s hilarious that the philosophical test to make a Milton admin profile showed me how utterly unprepared I am for philosophical debate, and how weirdly contradictory my viewpoints might be. Mind you, the only philosophy class I’ve taken in my life was an ethics class.

TL;DR Talos Principle is amazing so far, even though it makes me want to slink off back to college and sheepishly register for a philosophy class.

JoshuaSlowpoke777,

Are there any equivalents for BBC Micro or Acorn Electron? I’m tempted to try Elite (the original) on Steam Deck, and while I did once download a copy for free on a previous laptop (when the devs were celebrating an anniversary a few years back), I don’t know if that version is compatible with Deck.

JoshuaSlowpoke777,

Also, the devs of Factorio have a policy of never putting it on sale and adjusting for inflation sometimes, so if you’re gonna get it, now’s the time.

[potential spoilers for Fortunate Son] So, a bug in Fortunate Son seems to have been fixed.

:::spoiler spoiler So it’s possible to quickhack the cops that try to ambush you during this quest. Part of me still want to physically Elmer-glue their kiroshis to TV screens and forcibly educate them on the difference between Raffen Shivs and Aldecaldos rather than kill them, but at least they’re easier for pure Netrunner...

JoshuaSlowpoke777,

Strange way to say “my parents treated me like garbage, and I failed to break the cycle.”

[@GamersNexus] They Changed Everything: Valve Steam Deck OLED vs. LCD Tear-Down (www.youtube.com)

The new Valve Steam Deck OLED didn’t just change the screen: Almost every part of the device has had some sort of revision, from the screws to the power topology of the motherboard. Some of these changes happened silently in the Voyager platform refresh for the Steam Deck, but the majority of large changes are brand new....

JoshuaSlowpoke777,

Some days, I question why humanity ever allowed public companies to exist. That very concept seems to be creating a lot of societal drawbacks these days.

JoshuaSlowpoke777,

Are… Are you suggesting that there are potential ways a public company system could’ve actually been handled better, rather than the concept itself being flawed by nature?

I’m not saying I disagree, I’m just saying that possibility never occurred to me for some reason. (Maybe it’s my justice sensitivity complex acting up)

JoshuaSlowpoke777,

Are they talking existing sales, or sales after the announcement? If this is just post-announcement, holy fucking shit

Is the “obligate herbivory” feeding preference losing meta relevance?

A YouTube guide explaining how the feeding preference system for builds is a spectrum rather than a hard-and-fast rule (from CasualGeographic) claimed that most true herbivore builds rely on the “facultative herbivory” preference. One of the few examples of the “obligate herbivory” preference given in the video are...

JoshuaSlowpoke777,

And it’s gotten to a point where it’s being used as a utility computer in places, if I recall. That could’ve potentially sent sales snowballing away from typical console sale figures.

JoshuaSlowpoke777,

Plus, human bites can carry a lot of bacteria and whatnot, so arguably some of that damage should be poison or necrosis damage.

JoshuaSlowpoke777,

Worldbuilding idea for a challenging campaign: give every fully-sentient humanoid character, commoners included, a bite attack that powerful. That aughta put the kibosh on any murderhobo behavior for a time.

JoshuaSlowpoke777,

Arguably, whether this turns out decent or atrocious may depend, in part, on whether it’s a straight adaptation of the games (removes sensory elements that games and film don’t have in common, causing serious issues); or if it’s something that would fit better in a film, albeit taking place in Hyrule.

It may also depend on whether portions of the production team actively dislike the source material (cough cough Netflix Witcher cough cough)

JoshuaSlowpoke777,

Or use quickhacks that only hit once/don’t do DOT, such as Synapse Burnout.

JoshuaSlowpoke777,

Yep, as a Netrunner, I basically load things I shouldn’t outright kill full of Synapse Burnout quickhacks. Dunno why a quickhack that produces that many sparks so close to the skull is non-lethal, but whatevs.

Advice for lategame for a netrunner overclock build…

I put 20/20/20 into intelligence, technical, and body. Now I’m getting attribute points I could put either into cool or reflexes. Which of those last two would be more useful for a netrunner (especially one that relies quite heavily on Overclock, and may occasionally use tech or smart weapons)?

JoshuaSlowpoke777,

65-ish of the Cyberpunk 2077 hours were mine, full disclosure. Edit: or at least on Steam as a whole, any amount of which could’ve been on Deck

JoshuaSlowpoke777,

I’m just hoping that Netflix doesn’t get involved, or at least that Netflix doesn’t bork it like they did the live-action Witcher adaptation.

I could easily be wrong, but I remember some people involved in that series pretty much disregarding the source material entirely. Please correct me if that’s not what happened.

A netrunner dying by improperly jacking out seems weirdly realistic

When a certain character in the game dies because they’re still loaded into the Net at the moment when someone disconnects the jack, it kinda reminds me of IRL USB devices, where failing to dismount/eject them on the computer before physically removing them can cause problems, especially for the USB device. It almost feels...

JoshuaSlowpoke777,

Didn’t think the modern-day incarnation of Atari even had interest in games anymore. I could’ve sworn an entirely unrelated company bought the name when the original Atari died out.
