I can’t imagine anyone that has decent prospects would agree to go back to Tesla after getting canned with those kinds of wild swings in decision making.
I’d only do this if I was desperate. The company already showed they are willing to just pull the trigger at the drop of a hat and don’t give a fuck, even if I was still looking I’d be waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Anti-cheat makes a lot of sense in certain cases. Multiplayer, for instance, and even online coop. The moment you’re able to influence someone else’s experience, anti-cheat makes sense.
Though I’d argue it should be optional for “private” experiences, like private servers.
Guys, I have something to brag about. After almost a year of hard learning, I finally created my first mobile game! Edit: Fucksakes people, read the text in the images. Two of them are the exact same message from db0 with the above/below cropped out. And read the to/from.
The harassment is coming from the person taking the screenshots, db0 is the one not harassing people. Though he isn’t being super nice, I can’t really blame him.
Yeah, I may have mentioned it before, but I was labeled a “pedo apologist” because I defined a word (yandre iirc) while explicitly saying I hadn’t played an objectively horrible game.
They proceeded to intentionally misread my comment, and I was told I was perpetuating things by [drumroll] stating that I hadn’t played the game, and had not defended the game or it’s creator in any way.
One of their admins said (paraphrased) “fine, say you’re sorry, and don’t talk about it again, and we are cool.” An hour later I was banned from the instance.
It’s annoying because I actually enjoyed some of their (non political) communities.
Looking through the thread that got you banned though, they left another user who didn’t know the rules alone, and instead just gave them a “hey that’s not how you do disengaging on this instance.” Seemingly no ban. Nuckin futs.
Did you read the same messages I did? Even the person who posted the comment above said there were three harassing things, and the “pos” comment was harassment only because of those.
Missing the part where the “pos” comment was the only thing db0 said, and the three harassing things were what was being said to him.
If you need mental gymnastics to vilify someone, maybe rethink your position.
Sorry, to be clear I meant “block this instance” is a Lemmy feature, but “block users from a blocked instance” is likely client side. And to be clear, the web front ends are also clients. Many of them are non standard.
If you look at the description of the instance blocking, it says it doesn’t block users.
Didn’t mean to confuse things, I should have been more clear.
Most consumer internet providers have clauses in their agreements which prohibit things like hosting a website, or serving content. Both of which are things done pretty regularly by hobby level selfhosters.
Now, I’ve never actually heard of an ISP actioning on such clauses, but they are there none the less.
The only devs who could maybe benefit from sales protection are precisely the devs who can’t afford to utilize it. Namely indie developers who actually see all the profit directly, instead of having been paid up front.
They likely can’t even charge you at this point so I’d give up. They’ll do something like ask you to return them, at most. And what will likely happen is they will say “just keep them.”

I “blocked” hexbear, because a mod didn’t take the time to use their brain, labeled me a “pedophile apologist” and banned me from the entire instance. If they moderate based on “I don’t care what actually happened, I’m mad” then I’m not going to bother interacting with them.
More like a corrupt traffic cop. There are reasons you might want this kind of functionality, which is why it exists. Normally you can trust the cop (DHCP server) but in this case the cop has decided to send everyone from all streets down to the docks.
The theory is simple: instead of buying a household item or a piece of clothing or some equipment you might use once or twice, you take it out and return it.
Huh? You’re getting your money back? I’ve rented things from Home Depot and there’s a security deposit you get back, but you still pay to actually rent the tool.
