A lil' Phoenix humor for ya.

@darmato totally off point but… cool, is that’s what’s opening in the old Jack-in-the-Box building on Central?

My experiences with Waymo so far have been most satisfactory.

Far less scary than riding in a car with an unknown, untrusted human.

@simonwood It seems unlikely that the ride I was on required any human intervention. Particularly on the last ride, which was the longest, I was able to watch the computer’s input screen. It wasn’t confused or hesitant. I doubt it was using human assistance.

As for Tesla… no. Not at this time.

LoneLocust,
@LoneLocust@mastodon.social avatar

@simonwood I think you’re splitting a hair that isn’t a hair.

Tesla’s FSD mode doesn’t work. There a lawsuits flying that “full self driving” doesn’t fully self drive. (Merits of cases TBD) Tesla’s defense is “we told you that.”

But their plan is that it will, and Musk is making noise that it’s ready.

But, for what it currently is (flawed and not truly Full Self Driving) it does operate on all road types.

LoneLocust,
@LoneLocust@mastodon.social avatar

@simonwood I wouldn’t question the accuracy of the article over it. from context that’s clearly what he meant.

And… It does, but it doesn’t.

There are people using FSD right now. They pay to be in the beta test program with their own cars. And, under the software license terms, they’re not allowed to use it without being in control of the car.

But they do. Mainly because many Tesla owners are big pricks.

And it does not work well enough to be considered “working” as full-self driving.

LoneLocust,
@LoneLocust@mastodon.social avatar

@simonwood you could call it either of the genius or the absolute depravity of moral responsibility that Tesla has basically taken at technology, which is not legal on the streets and rolled it out to Tesla owners willing to put a $10,000 fee and/or $200 a month so that they can test this software for them.

Tesla’s hope is that they can avoid the liability for putting something illegal on the street by telling the users they can’t actually use it without acting as human driver.

@simonwood I imagine he must’ve been one of the people who paid the $8000/$10,000 (accounts vary) fee to have the FSD product.

If you spend that much money, goddamnit, you’re gonna use it even if it fucking kills you.

I’d bet you even money he buys another Tesla, too.

The dystopian future in which humanity relegated to shining the shoes of robots (1909).

LoneLocust,

@glennf I can’t take this ad seriously.

The very idea that robots would smoke pipes is ludicrous. Being vapers seems much more credible.

When many people think of , they think of endless suburban sprawl. And, certainly, that’s part of the story. But here’s something that many are surprised to learn:

Four of the five largest city parks are located in metro Phoenix

@rscottjones Maybe Skyline could annex another 600 acres and knock Texas off the radar?

Watching USA vs Bangladesh in . Shocked that USA apparently beat Bangladesh the other day. Not going to happen today, I fear.

Match in Houston. The field looks awful. No stands. Maybe 50 people watching the match.

Still… go team USA!

LoneLocust,
@LoneLocust@mastodon.social avatar

I could be wrong. The USA might pull this one out. 19th over, 9 wickets down.

18+ LoneLocust,
@LoneLocust@mastodon.social avatar

USA actually beat them. Final over 10th wicket fell. Bangladesh were about 6 runs short.

Key Takeaway: the United States, just an associate nation, has defeated Bangladesh, a full test nation, in both the match and the series.

If only there were some Americans watching.

18+ LoneLocust,
@LoneLocust@mastodon.social avatar

@smurthys That is true. Neither side was sparkling.

USA has got a long way to go, and still no infrastructure to build interest in youngster to play or adults to watch.

I find that depressing. Cricket requires so much more strategy than baseball, it’s just a better game.

Looks like I’ll have to pay for NowTV in June so I can watch the T20 Cricket World Cup. It runs from the 2nd to the 29th of June.

I’ll also be paying for Netflix for a month to watch Geek Girl.

The way to consume the non core streaming services. On pay for them when there is something specific to watch.

LoneLocust,
@LoneLocust@mastodon.social avatar

@ianRobinson In the US, I need to pickup Willow every summer to catch the IPL, The Hundred, (this year) the T20 WC, (maybe the MLc), some of the Big Bash, misc other matches… then I let it go again as the season ebbs.
