Listen, I’m a superstitious guy, so I’ve been holding back on my daily posts over here. No more! A celebratory all Rangers grid today, and who cares about that 65 rarity.

MediaLawProf, to random

They talked to Al Oliver! This kid who grew up in Arlington, living and dying with this stupid team for so many years, has a full heart today. https://theathletic.com/5023408/2023/11/02/texas-rangers-first-championship/

It appears the mass migration to is well underway. Sigh.

MediaLawProf,

@Chanders @aram I’m there but staying here too for when bsky inevitably implodes

MediaLawProf,

@Chanders @aram mixed bag - I think Twitter was great for my career & scholarship a decade ago, but got more toxic (both personally and professionally) since. I’m glad to be rid of it.

I’ve been off here awhile while tending to a bunch of other stuff but yeah, as y’all may remember from my antics, I’m kind of a nutso Texas Rangers fan. A very happy one tonight!

MediaLawProf,

And here was my today, featuring Al Oliver (as always) plus several other Rangers including one freshly minted ALCS MVP.

MediaLawProf,

I’ve been neglecting my posts on here - but yesterday was a 17 rarity with all Rangers

DocTellMeMore, to baseball

Benny Kauff was the only batting champion of the short-lived Federal League (a 3rd major league in 1914-15), batting .370 in 1914 for the Indianapolis Hoosiers and .342 in 1915 for the Brooklyn Tip Tops. Kauff also led the FL in stolen bases both years.

Kauff would then play 5 years with the New York Giants, hitting .287 over those years. Kauff was then banned from baseball for stealing a car despite being acquitted by a jury of the charges.

MediaLawProf,

@DocTellMeMore fascinating! I will have to find a way to get him in immaculate grid

Froggent, to random

First time to play. My memory is shot. I would have down so much better 15-20 years ago.

MediaLawProf,

@Froggent my memory is locked for the 80s and a little before and after, but I really struggle post 2000. Expansion teams are death for me.

MediaLawProf,

@Froggent rangers are what I do best - doesn’t hurt that I’m an amateur blogger about this cursed team! My yesterday was all guys who played for the Rangers at one time or another

Got my first 1 rarity in today! Boosted by an Al Oliver appearance, five of my all time favorites in the bottom row and upper corners, and memories of that oral history of the Brooklyn Dodgers I read back in high school.

MediaLawProf,

I actually did a little play by play as I went really just to entertain @JeremyLittau so here’s how it happened. As usual, first square was my man.

MediaLawProf,

then added another favorite & texted @JeremyLittau

MediaLawProf,

@JeremyLittau next up, another favorite from my early Rangers fandom days - I met him when he and Doc Medich were special guests at a swim team event when I was 9

MediaLawProf,

@JeremyLittau then, the rarity gambles - if I went another favorite (can you tell I was a catcher in Little League?) in the upper right corner, how bad would the rarity hit be? And it wasn’t bad at all.

MediaLawProf,

And then the biggest rarity gamble - I figured folks may use him in the Gold Glove instead of .300 average block, and that seems to have held

MediaLawProf,

Now, Dodger time. At this point I’m definitely gunning for low rarity so I tried to get as obscure as possible. Old-timey guy with brief stint on the club. Fascination with catchers helped too.

MediaLawProf,

Next - again seeking obscure I went Boston/Brooklyn on a guy that “Oral History of the Brooklyn Dodgers” book spent a lot of time on thanks to his key role on the 1941 club. Now it’s getting real.

MediaLawProf,

And now another gamble - there are lots of All Stars but they’re all usually pretty high profile. I went with a guy briefly a Ranger and that I hoped not too many others would choose. I’ll take the 0.1% - and now I’m at 0.86 with 1 square remaining.

MediaLawProf,

I was having a hard time coming up with a non-obvious name I was sure on. Went back to my old days building Milwaukee Braves all-time teams on Micro League Baseball for the Apple II. Came in higher than expected at 0.3% but still kept me at the 1.

MediaLawProf,

@ArthurCopeland4 love the Willie grid! I’m hoping to a Stewart grid sometime
