Dude I just got back from Mexico City and burritos do exist there. They consider it USA food along with cheeseburgers. Mexico isn’t static, they adopt food like everyone else.

Nah dude, they were definitely eating it. You could get a gordita from a street vendor and falafel from a restaurant with both of them selling Coca Cola. People like foods from around the world, including Mexicans.

Texas turns down $350M in summer food assistance for children, citing lack of resources (www.houstonchronicle.com)

Texas is passing up nearly $350 million in federal aid to help feed millions of low-income children during the summer months after a state agency said it lacked the time and resources to implement the program this year....

Texas never stops breaking my lone star heart.

I like Babel for Spanish.

Anyone know a good app for learning Nahuatl?

The tide isn’t rising, the yachts are just getting taller.

Technically I would say the harnessing and utilization of fire. It arguably changed our evolution requiring less energy to digest food.

Any garbage man that picks up my trash. Any sanitation engineer that cleans my sewage.

I’m going to be 40 next year. My entire adult life was struggling to find stable work. I never had romance let alone a family to call my own. I’m so worried about the future and my age damning me to poverty.

If you want a really dark follow up research Tlacaxipehualiztli for Xipe Totec.

Hey I just brought that Teotl up. Fun fact: the skin wearing was a metaphor for maize in its husk.

So butterflies and hummingbird wings were considered in the realm of war due to “Aztecs” observation that the beating of their wings look like the flickering of fire.

Bizarre sub communities with rich veins of content. I want to see pictures of amateur electric sign makers, marbel olympics, and graffiti.

I also should learn how to short a stock.

I had the hardest time getting some supplemental accessories for my Aztec warriors. I wish acquiring their extended range was easier.

Hey I’ve definitely been in your place before. What got me learning coding skills was motivation for a career change, a platform that worked for me (Udemy), and accepting my failed attempts. Small bursts of motivation are more than what most people have. Utilizing them when they come on are opportunities to get a lot done in short periods of time. Don’t dedicate yourself to paths that don’t appeal to you, half the fun is figuring out what kind things make you tick.

As far as wanting to be dead, existentialism is always a painful bitch. Reading Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations helped me alot. It doesn’t take away pain, but can help cultivate core reasons for one’s actions. That helps with existing, at least for me.

Don’t beat yourself up.

I’m preparing to go to bed instead of painting Warhammer 40K Orks.

MisterNeon,
@MisterNeon@lemmy.world avatar

Chances are low I’ll do that, I paint for myself. I like painting models since it is analog and I work on a computer all day. It’s an activity that I do for my own benefit thus I’m reluctant to share with the public for fear of losing that feeling of self fulfillment. I’m also a far better painter than a photographer.

Edit: Your genestealers are coming along nicely.

I’m legitimately confused, is he trying to hire a Nordic version of an American lobbyist?

    Oh, the murderer.

I would suggest studying a bit more on the history of African Americans in the USA. While this was tragic and unjustified it was a more recent symptom of hundreds of years of systemic violence against people of color than a tipping point that changed everything. This horrible bloody path America has been walking down for generations and Mr. Floyd’s murder was a fresh footprint.

OP my only argument is that your focus is too narrow. The circumstances that led to Mr. Floyd’s murder did not come out of nowhere.

The state I grew up in would create postcards after lynches a few decades ago. That’s the America I know.

Africa's Catholic hierarchy refuses same-sex blessings, says such unions are contrary to God's will (apnews.com)

In the greatest rebuke yet to Pope Francis, the Catholic bishops of Africa and Madagascar issued a unified statement Thursday refusing to follow his declaration allowing priests to offer blessings to same-sex couples and asserting that such unions are “contrary to the will of God.”...

What are they gonna do about it? It’s not like they can write down their grievances on a piece of paper and nail it to a cathedral door.

Man I like Marcus Aurelis and loved reading Meditations, but even I think this is weird.

Have you studied prohibition in the USA? People don’t stop partaking in vices that are consumable when they become illegal, they just turn to illegal means to obtain them. Prohibition in the 20’s led to the rise of organized crime, drugs won the war on drugs, and in countries where alcohol is banned it just means the rich can partake while the poor go to jail.

Also humans are more than their immediate biological bodies. They are part of communities and cultures that may have deep ties to alcoholic beverages as part of their heritage. British pubs, Christian wine, Mexican pulque, Mongolian Airag, and numerous other examples are essential for cultural and community cohesiveness going back for miilinia. It is ethnocentric of you to dismiss their needs and identity for your convenience.

I say all of this as a son of a junkie. I’ve witnessed first hand the destruction of personal prosperity and the husking of the human soul that comes from imbibing narcotics. I also wish I could put the evils of decadence back in Pandora’s Box, unfortunately it was opened way before civilization existed.
