From a personal tech perspective, one of the best decisions I ever made for myself was setting up a #Nextcloud server to store my family pictures a decade ago. It's been absolutely rewarding to be in control of my own data, having data backups I can rely on, and a way to securely share files/media with others - all on my own replaceable/upgradable devices!

@vwbusguy you just use Nextcloud photos? Or something else, I’m mid setup right now

@ismh86 Any chance you have a CAD program for MacOS you like and can recommend?

Monstersx,
@Monstersx@mastodon.social avatar

@hotdogsladies @ismh86 another vote for onshape, it's free, and web based. Provides all the functionality (you'll use) of fusion. Fusion has byzantine user account things thanks to autocad as well.

@hotdogsladies @RecDiffs I buy soda where the skids dance in the parking lot. I relate to the skids most.

You learn a lot about a machine from using it wrong.

Conceivably, even more than the people who are using it right.

When your geology major is packing up his place and realizes maybe their rock collection would have been better packed in multiple small boxes than a few large ones.

Gave myself a weird home haircut.

I was kinda thinking George Hurley and was ready to settle for Mike Patton but in the end I landed in an unanticipated third location.

In 1988, Echelon came out for DOS – it looked like the future!

I thought, “Wow! This is in actual 3D!”

And from my kid perspective living in the 80s, it was true. It had wireframe graphics and ultra-smooth scrolling. When I piloted the ship, it felt like I was completely in control.

We may snicker now at the EGA graphics but you got to understand that an NES couldn’t do this. Echelon really showed off what PCs at the time were capable of doing. It was revelatory.

Returning to it now, it’s amazing how far we’ve come in the past 36 years. However, playing this game is still fun – if only to stare at those wireframes!

Today was ... interesting. If you followed me for the past months over on the shitbird site, you might have seen a bunch of angry German words, lots of graphs, and the occassional news paper, radio, or TV snippet with yours truely. Let me explain.

In Austria, inflation is way above the EU average. There's no end in sight. This is especially true for basic needs like energy and food.

Our government stated in May that they'd build a food price database together with the big grocery chains. But..

Monstersx,
@Monstersx@mastodon.social avatar

@badlogic I started building a scraper for some Canadian grocery stores today, nice and simple app. I added jest so I could test individual scrapers
