China wants to rid itself of Western tech by 2027 -- outlines domestic alternatives in 'Document 79' (www.tomshardware.com)

The WSJ reports that China is on an extensive push to drive out Western tech companies from the country and replace them with domestic alternatives. China reportedly started its domestic expansion in 2022 with a highly secretive “Document 79,” an initiative focused on deleting Western tech companies from the country. Since...

MrFunnyMoustache,

I don’t blame them, considering how relying on American tech companies puts them in a position where America can use it as a way to pressure them… I would have done the same.

MrFunnyMoustache,

True, basically what the US is blaming China of doing. Pretty sure both are doing it, but the hypocrisy is funny.

MrFunnyMoustache,

It’s also a distraction for the public; by blaming China for spying, they can take up headlines which diverts public attention away from other stuff.

MrFunnyMoustache,

They also probably fear dogs, but maybe that’s just the barks that scare them.

MrFunnyMoustache,

You’re right, it isn’t the real periodic table, it was probably either photoshopped or made beforehand to troll him

MrFunnyMoustache,

Claim they want to improve their citizen’s safety, but do everything in their power to make enemies at every turn. Real smart of them. How can none of these morons in their government think “let’s not antagonise everyone around us”? Any 10 year old is smart enough to do better.

MrFunnyMoustache,

I didn’t say it was a byproduct, I just questioned the intelligence of the people behind it, since they don’t truly gain anything other than enemies.

MrFunnyMoustache,

This is much worse than just assault, because it’s also an intentional act of battery, which is a potential felony charge in Massachusetts.

MrFunnyMoustache,

Yes, but it also poses a risk that our politicians and public will think “we solved global warming” and not move away from fossil fuels.

This is a great way to buy time, not a permanent solution.

MrFunnyMoustache,

Instructions unclear; bought a friend on eBay…

MrFunnyMoustache,

To remember such an obscure fact, you must be an eye-deal student.

MrFunnyMoustache,

Pretty sure he does that because he wants to limit the governments’ power to control people’s finances, which from his perspective after seeing how untrustworthy these powerful institutions are, I can understand his desire for it. I don’t agree with him on cryptocurrency stuff, but I do understand his perspective and how one would come to that conclusion.

MrFunnyMoustache,

When you forget to put break conditions for a loop…

MrFunnyMoustache,

Flipping an individual bit through radiation is extremely easy, which is why we need error corrections, but despite that, we still get errors… Even if the probability of an error bypassing the ECC is extremely low, over a long enough timescale it will happen often enough to evolve. Especially in space where there is no atmosphere or magnetic field to reduce it.

MrFunnyMoustache,

They might just bulldoze the house to add more lanes.

MrFunnyMoustache,

It is very unwise to move to a place with a lot of Russians who might recognise him and report him to Russia, especially a tourist town with a lot of people coming and going. Also, with this kind of money they gave him, he could have gotten plastic surgery to make him harder to recognise.

MrFunnyMoustache,

Getting rid of Tucker Carlson has done wonders for them, hope they keep it up.

MrFunnyMoustache,

Agreed, but a step in the right direction regardless.

MrFunnyMoustache,

I understand that, but from my personal experience, this is not more stable because companies like these will fire a chunk of their workforce without batting an eye for the slightest shift in the market, whereas a self-employed person will just see a slight decline in demand. Also, the difference in income more than makes up for the perceived stability. Sure it isn’t for everyone, but as a consumer, I’d rather most of the money I pay won’t go to corporate executive’s multi-million dollar salary, but to the people actually providing the service.

MrFunnyMoustache,

Yes, it’s harder to do this, especially when you’re starting out; if I saw such an ad like in the post in my area, I would definitely prefer that over a big corporation even for the same price. The fact that this is significantly cheaper makes it even sweeter, and I would have definitely used this guy’s services had I lived in Seattle.

MrFunnyMoustache,

Damn, that’s crazy, and it looks like you’re right. He must have the acting talent to make it big in Hollywood, and would have probably made a lot more too… But instead chose to make the world a worse place.

I still can’t fathom being aware and saying the things he is saying with a straight face.
