Beehaw has decided to defederate from lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works. I believe it was already separated from lemmygrad. I think this makes this community the largest one accessible to the most instances whereas before Literature@beehaw.org was. I guess we'll have to make the most of it!
I don't mean to be pessimistic, bit since most subreddits are only going dark for a couple days, the site will basically be back to normal soon. I wonder how many users here are only here because of temporary outrage and not because they actually prefer Lemmy. I'm curious about people's outlook on this situation.
Even is Lemmy isn't right, why not have a look around and see if you can replace Reddit with something else, even if it's a mix of stuff.
This is the beginning of the enshittification of Reddit - it's no longer about providing a good user experience, it's about providing a good corporate experience. This means that the content will get worse and worse , and less and less relevant. Stage 3 is where Reddit fucks over the advertisers and starts making bank, and shortly after that with no users and no corporate support it starts to implode..
And then you will need to move off the platform.
Or - you could move off now. Lemmy is ok, the best for chatting. I've been using Imgur for memes but miss NSFW content, and Lemmy is also very NSFW unfriendly. So for me right now it's a bit of a mix.
I'm working on my own content aggregator with the features of Reddit, but in the end it's just for me if nobody gives a damn and that's ok
This site is currently struggling to handle the amount of new users. I have already upgraded the server, but it will go down regardless if half of Reddit tries to join....
I'm making a community with a bunch of archived photos and videos I have of cats getting pulled along in shoeboxes in a train like formation - I'm calling it CatTrain....
Hey @nutomic, so I ended up creating a pixelfed account after looking at what all if this is about and posting there... Since it does both videos and photos and also I got in immediately but still waiting for a peertube account to be approved.
Anyway so I direct linked the MP4 over on !cattrain and there is no preview or indication it's a video. Is there a better way to link them for user engagement? The images show up just fine
I'll give it a go. I know I can make an icon to the web browser shortcut on my home screen but the less friction I have to replacing boost the more i will use it
After trying jerboa I ended up going this route. I keep getting server errors using the pwa though not sure if lemmy.ml just can't handle the traffic or I'm doing something wrong
I'm genuinely so excited to see some of the more focussed communities blossom on this platform as they have on Reddit over the years. Which are your favourites and which do you think could succeed here?
Well I just subbed to !uncle_bens and read your posts. I haven't got much to add yet as I'm currently doing my second attempt as the first one needed to be aborted early. Fingers crossed and I'll add some stuff there if I have anything
I'm surprised to find there are no adult subs popping up.
I hit up my brother in law who is involved in the adult industry and he is going to spin up an instance that's super ok with adult content in the next day or so.
Let's face it, without porn tumbler disappeared, and I think Reddit will too when it bans anything nsfw
We gave one of them to my cat loving sister in law and the removed gave it away to a friend. Like, if you didn't want it I would have taken it. I'm still salty if you can't tell
I'm on the lookout for simple piracy alternatives that offer a user-friendly experience with content presentation similar to Stremio + Torrentio. While I've tried various P2P programs like BitTorrent, I've found that their UIs lack the seamless presentation of content that Stremio provides. I'm hoping to discover options that...
Just joined, and well, I'm thinking ill stay. Ive been looking for a good reddit alternative for a while now. devs, you've done quite some good work here.
Do you think that's going to happen here? The community makes the platform but I used to like Reddit back in the wild west days before everything was so censored. It was up to me if I wanted to consume some content - and while I largely chose to avoid certain things, I felt like it was my choice. A great example was the r/toosoon sub that got banned for it's morbid humor when some celebrity died. Sure it was in bad taste but that doesn't mean it shouldn't exist

Honestly, I'm impressed. This is hilarious.
Beehaw defederation means this is now the largest book sublemmy accessible

Does tiktok show you better videos when you threaten to leave with the back button?
I've never really used tiktok, but with Reddit shitting the bed it's time to expand my horizons and create a social media "mix"...

How many users here do you think are going to get bored and end up back on Reddit as soon as the blackout ends?

lemmy.ml is overloaded, use other instances instead
