Q7. Are there local anti-cycling attitudes or reinforcements of those attitudes? I'm reminded of a bilboard ad in Gilette WY, about a decade ago, for a law firm where it basically said if you had a DUI if you didn't hire them the only way you were getting aound was on a bike.
@ascentale@InkySchwartz A7. more just complete ignorance that bicyclists exist outside of athletic training and mountain biking. @bikenite@bikenitea@bikenitea7
@ascentale@Brownian_motion A3. I don't have specific cycling shoes, just whatever I'm wearing that day, with the caveat that in winter I'll wear hiking boots and if its a long ride I'll switch to athletic shoes if I'm wearing nicer. #BikeNite#BikeNiteA#BikeNiteA3
Welcome to the May 31st BikeNite! Thanks for joining, and I hope we all enjoy chatting about cycle stuff! Answer whenever at your convenience. Anyone can join, now or later. Reply to what you like, and boost for visibility.
We'll start out with our introduction:
Q1. Where are you posting from today? I've seen so many more people riding around recently. It may be because of warm weather, or because of Bike Month. What local cycling trends have you seen?
@ascentale A1. posting from Midwest USA. I've seen more of what I assume are retirees due to age and time of day doing utility cycling in my neighborhood when I work from home. Its awesome, hopefully they'll join in advocacy for better infra. #BikeNite#BikeNiteA#BikeNiteA1
@petes_bread_eqn_xls yikes sorry for your loss of yummy food! At least it's generally avoidable, unlike my friend's post-30 corn and soy insensitivity.
In the last 50 entries most were pre-written and most were part of a thread. The flexibility given in 200 was definitely a game changer and reduces stress quite much.
One thing that I have noticed, although the entry already existed, the act of posting was the bottleneck.
Another thing that I changed is the way that the entries are bundled. Initially wrote each entry separate and then linked them after the fact.
Now instead I write them all in the same file as long as they are part of the same thread. This eases the publishing, the writing, and linking. Additionally, with this method, I can add references to the end of the file and be one step closer if I ever choose to publish long form.
Well, off to another 65 days to complete a typical year. Technically this year would have 366 days.
@Teri_Kanefield yikes, that's so messed up. Sorry for not saying it more often to help drown out that kind of nonsense, but I've really appreciated your thoughtful posts and educating so many of us!
I wish we had a common, shorthand way to describe the movement to increase street safety, walking, cycling, mass transit use/availability, and density. Political polls often ask what issues matter most to you, but we don't have a common way to describe it to pollsters, so its popularity never gets detected.
@timesandseasons "Vision Zero" is probably the most understood close term that politicians would know (and likely would get like minds), "Strong Towns" is great but only for those knowing the organization, and "Human-Centered Urbanism" might be more encompassing. I too wish we had a single banner word.
