No,no,no,no! You’ve all got it wrong! You’re all looking at it from entirely the wrong objective!

It’s a GREAT policy for property investors which will boost capital growth and provide excellent short term returns!

Luckily, in the article, the caption underneath the pictures told me which one was actually a photo of Gina, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to tell…

It’s a lot messier than most think.

ABC article

McBride’s intention was not to leak to expose war crimes, it was to show how troops were being unnecessarily hounded by legal etc , ie ‘over-zealous” investigations of special forces’

The ABC discovered war crimes in the leaks and went down that path.

Now McBride looks like the hero being victimised for exposing the war crimes.

Hahhaaahahaha.

I’ve used this for years to test speakers and headphones etc, and had never read any of the comments!

They’re great! But you can feel the disappointment dripping off some of the comments, that made me a bit sad 😔

Every now and then I think ‘OK, this time I surely should be able to switch over to Wayland!’

And there’s always one application or use case that stops me.

Yeah, I’m on nvidia which hasn’t helped either…

Jesus Christ.

I use the calculator in Ubuntu tor very simple purposes. It was crashing on me every time I opened it.

I tracked down why.

It was trying to get a foreign currency exchange rate file - which I was horrified that you’d think about even having in a calculator.

The reason that was failing? Because I had a VPN enabled.

And it wouldn’t even fail gracefully. Nope it would poof, disappear.

The fix is to disable vpn, and disable foreign currency in the preferences.

I was so pissed off. And on the next upgrade the same thing happened, which I’d forgotten all about, so went through it AGAIN!

Yellow crested cockatoos, galahs etc can be terrorists to trees and shrubs. You can be walking along and on the ground see piles of leaves and little branches and fruit with one bite out of them.

The cockies have very sharp beaks and will just chomp through anything. This includes aerials, cables or anything else they think looks like fun. Sometimes they will even party in your room

Do NOT put your finger near one.

This is great! I hate the trend of having a separate kitchen gadget for everything

I do something very similar for a simple pizza in a pan,.rather than firing up an oven. I’m oven averse 😬

Again, you can use anything on top. Leftovers etc.

Wipe non-stick pan with oil. Medium heat. Put lebanese bread face down for a short time till it’s at least warm or slightly toasted. Flip so it’s face up. Aldi Lebanese bread fits nicely in a 30cm pan. Sauce, cheese, then whatever toppings you like. Cover with lid, and wait until the bottom has got nice and crisp. The cheese should have melted and the top ingredients heated up by then. If you really wanted the top to get a bit of a crisp on it, you could throw it under the griller for a while, but I can’t wait that long, and if you do, you probably should have done it in the oven anyway.

My favourite topping for pizza, quesadillas, nachos^1^ or anything crispy:

  • sweat down onions cut into rings and different coloured capsicums cut into strips until they become nice and soft. They also become beautifully sweet.
  • Slice up chicken into bite size pieces, or dismantle a breast from a bachelor’s handbag into bite size pieces. Grab some mexican seasoning sachet, Fajita is my preferred, and coat the chicken lightly in that. Toss it around in a bowl to coat evenly. Chuck the chicken in the pan and cook/warm it.
  • Cheese & Sauce. You can use whatever cheese you like. I’ve been using Aldi’s Vintage Cheddar lately. Also, you don’t need to grate it. Just slice it reasonably thin and cover the area. BBQ sauce is the go. I use Bullseye Original, and loooooove it.
  • Put it on something crispy and enjoy 😋

^1^ If doing nachos, leaving out bbq sauce, but adding sour cream, guac, diced tomatoes/salsa and lettuce is acceptable

Let’s see one of the politicians supporting SMRs put their money where their mouth is, and show their faith and confidence in the technology by proposing that an SMR be built in the suburb they and their family live in.

No doubt because of my scathing post here.

Fedora is "the gaming" distro and perfect for Linux beginner confirmed (at least for me)

why? because it’s not triggering an obscure anti cheat on a game I’ve been playing when using wine (performance is still the same tho), everything else is just work no missing dependencies and it’s doesn’t get in my way like other distros (I tried Arch, Opensuse, Ubuntu, Debian), just to clarify I’m a complete noob...

Australian prime minister labels Elon Musk ‘an arrogant billionaire who thinks he is above the law’ (www.theguardian.com)

Australia’s prime minister has labelled X’s owner, Elon Musk, an “arrogant billionaire who thinks he is above the law” as the rift deepens between Australia and the tech platform over the removal of videos of a violent stabbing in a Sydney church....

Stop talking and do something about it.

What're some of the dumbest things you've done to yourself in Linux?

I’m working on a some materials for a class wherein I’ll be teaching some young, wide-eyed Windows nerds about Linux and we’re including a section we’re calling “foot guns”. Basically it’s ways you might shoot yourself in the foot while meddling with your newfound Linux powers....

I finally got around to trying it.

From Aldi, I grabbed:

  • Choceur Dark Chocolate for $3.79.
  • Oh So natural Coconut oil for $4.19
  • As an aside, I was surprised to find this ‘oil’ was totally solid. It had the same consistency as a bar of copha, and I couldn’t even put a spoon into it. I had to nuke it in the microwave to get any out.

I used this recipe and used about 1 row and 2 squares from the next row of chocolate (so a little less than a 1/4 of the chocolate) and 2 tsp (10g) of coconut oil. This made enough for 2 serves for me, but I don’t drown my ice cream. So, one 200g chocolate would make about 8 serves. And one 300g jar of coconut oil would make about 60 serves.

Now for the important part; how did it look, how was the consistency and taste?

Once it was melted, I used a spoon to drizzle it over my ice cream. It flowed nicely, and after a short while, created a nice shell. I may have added a bit more of this than the usual Ice Magic, so in some spots, it did seem a bit thicker. But a couple of cracks with a spoon and no problem. It looked lush, and the consistency was good.

Now on to the taste. I’m a simple man. I put this over vanilla ice cream. I want to taste vanilla and chocolate. But in some cases there was a definitive taste of coconut. Now, the ratio of chocolate topping to ice cream varies by spoonful to spoonful. There were some spoonfuls I was thinking, “OMG this is soooooo much better. The choccy is delicious, and a very subtle hint of coconut with the vanilla”, and other spoonfuls I was thinking “WTF, I get chocolate, but the coconut is obliterating any vanilla in the ice cream! No!”

So, I might experiment with the next batch by cutting back a little on the coconut oil, and see how that goes. The other option is to embrace the coconuty in something different. I’m thinking a white choccy with a coconut might be interesting to try. Seeing as I have about 7 bars of chocolate to buy to get rid of this jar of coconut oil, I can experiment 😁
