FYI... @jjcouey and @housatonic_its

"Personal smears on me and my 19 yo daughter have been repeatedly coming from someone called JJ Couey. He is frequently accompanied by a sidekick who calls himself Mark or Housatonic. These two have been misrepresenting my work and Katherine Watt’s work. Both Katherine and I wrote to them asking to stop, but they continued lying..."

Hi, I’m your average city-dweller, totally disconnected from nature and animal husbandry.

Today I heard that a politician shot her dog and goat and I’m very upset about it.

I’ve never raised an animal of any kind (except my cat, Stockholm), and the only time I’ve been around any animals other than my cat is when I go to the city zoo and when I see emotional support dogs at CostCo.

But culling animals is always wrong and immoral, even if they present a danger to other people.

Shame, bigot.

Even folks who are hunters and farmers, familiar with killing animals for food or reasonable cause, find the story one about having the right stuff to be a dispassionate killer not about protecting anything. The takeaway for me is remember I'm a cold hearted wench, not I'm a naturalist that understands what to weigh in taking any life.

Good for them for standing their ground and not caving to pressure to sell.

Weird situation all around, as the ban really doesn't mean anything with over 200 days to appeal and no action taken to keep American people from using TikTok in the meantime.

For too long, scientists have been content in espousing the lazy metaphor of living systems operating simply like machines, says science writer Philip Ball in How Life Works. Yet, it’s important to be open about the complexity of biology — including what we don’t know — because public understanding affects policy, health care and trust in science. “So long as we insist that cells are computers and genes are their code,” writes Ball, life might as well be “sprinkled with invisible magic”. But, reality “is far more interesting and wonderful”, as he explains in this must-read user’s guide for biologists and non-biologists alike.

When the human genome was sequenced in 2001, many thought that it would prove to be an ‘instruction manual’ for life. But the genome turned out to be no blueprint. In fact, most genes don’t have a pre-set function that can be determined from their DNA sequence.

Instead, genes’ activity — whether they are expressed or not, for instance, or the length of protein that they encode — depends on myriad external factors, from the diet to the environment in which the organism develops. https://web.archive.org/web/20240205115152/https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-024-00327-x

Real head scratcher how a rapidly spreading, deadly pathogen limps along for years when favorite analogous event Spanish Flu was one year & done with broad spectrum natural immunity for a century!

A comprehensive analysis for Week 14 of 2024 – marking the 214th week of the SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic.
Week 14 2024 Highlights: * 7,170 ‘Unknown Cause’ natural cause deaths in young persons, from the middle of 2023, were ported over to ‘Unknown Drug Overdose’ non-natural cause in order to avoid ‘Sudden Cardiac Death’ categorization. * Cancer hit a new high excess at 6.8%, and a new high rate of growth at 2.8% https://theethicalskeptic.substack.com/p/the-state-of-things-pandemic-week-206

Canadian media & govt personalities are launching an "I deserve better" campaign in response to the hate they receive from the public.
It kinda comes off as "you can't talk to us like this" in an environment where they regularly talk down to the public about anything and everything.
People in all kinds of positions of authority seem to forget that respect is a two-way street.

Pressure on elecvted officials do work especiall calls that are brief, poli8te & to the point.. folks on phones don't set policy they take messages & the more clear your message the better.. Capitol Switchboard can locate MoC by zip code & every Committee House & Senate has its own staff who take messages too. 1-202-224-3121
