We should all stop using savings time and time zones, and instead use Unix time, and a localized "convenience time" in which 6am is pegged to sunrise in your location. Not joking mostly.

It occurred to me that the (standard sized) tablet I watch videos on is nearly as big as the TV we watched in the living room when I was a kid, except it's in color, has higher resolution, is much easier to move, and doesn't require that I maintain it by taking the vacuum tubes out to test them at Radio Shack every six months or so.

Did you know you can put shelves in your refrigerator's freezer? It's great! Maybe this is obvious but nobody ever told me, I tried it, it's amazing how easier it makes things.

Is there some kind of to-do list system or tracker which intelligently deals with the fact that most tasks evolve as you do them, and when you tackle the task there's a very good chance when you're done it has simply transmogrified but is still undone? Most bug or task trackers I've seen can't deal with this at all. So far the best I've seen is just editing text in a text file, but this kind of sucks.

Hypothesis about productivity:

  1. You're not unproductive, you just feel overwhelmed. At least, feelings about productivity are mostly disconnected from actual productivity.

  2. Feeling overwhelmed reduces productivity, and worse, wipes out all positive emotional payoff from productivity.

  3. You feel overwhelmed not because you're unproductive, it's because you feel responsible for additional things until you feel overwhelmed, and you do that because you've been raised to not value yourself.

I feel like... if the Apple Vision Pro requires you to wave your hands around in front of you while using it, then it has already failed (as an AR device).

There's this fundamental irony in the device: to achieve AR utility, it has to be a VR device with excellent pass-through. But this encourages them to write VR apps. From the reviews I've seen, it looks like 99% of its apps are VR masquerading as AR.

And if it's really a VR headset, why wear it in public?

VR with pass-through is the only way to do AR because of the physics of light and the nature of the eye, sorry.

Watching a YouTube video on a window floating in front of you isn't AR, it's just really boring VR. It doesn't add to anything surrounding you, it just obscures it with something else.

I've seen a few reviews of the Vision Pro and none of the apps they used were really AR.

I wonder if "spacial computing" is just a way to avoid talking about these things.

@Binder yeah I never feel good after finishing some errand, I just feel that the 1% reduction in the Big List of Errands hasn't really moved the needle and get more depressed.

I need to look in to this Tesla feature which apparently lets them drive through red lights & stop signs. Seems to involve a lot of honking all around, which is festive.

@Binder I realize that this effect may be the result of the Tesla being the new BMW, i.e.. it's driven by pricks who think they're above the rules; but another interesting cause is, I'm told that Tesla changed their mapping system so that inclusion of stop signs is only provided in the expensive tier, maybe people were expecting that info but are no longer getting it?

So we're facing a future where enshittification from a corporate office directly results in worse behavior from consumers.
