Long time gamer and student of history. I enjoy many different games and systems. I lean towards the "series" games like BCS, OCS, GCACW, GBACW, etc. because I get the most play for time invested learning. I follow the latest developments in the hobby and I very much appreciate the content creators that make it easy to stay involved even when life gets in the way. This Mastodon server is my effort to give something back.

All, mastodon.social is dealing with another spam wave. Report any spam you receive and I’ll block the accounts. If it persists I’ll limit federation until their mods get it under control.

The release candidate for Mastodon v4.2 dropped today. There are a ton of new features and improvements coming. Read more about it here: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/releases/tag/v4.2.0-rc1

We’re not going to rush to update. I’ll let it burn in for a bit to see if any showstopper bugs surface. I’m also going to take the opportunity to make a few server upgrades I have pending, so I’ll likely upgrade in two steps so it’s more manageable.

Over the last few hours Mastodon treasure @Teri_Kanefield has been the victim of very vulgar harassment on her server law-and-politics.online.

Mastodon lets users create their own instances, but you need to block bad instances.

Fortunately, Mastodon provides support for this:

@msh @mastodonmigration @Teri_Kanefield @fediblock Whatever works for you. I prefer to block first and whitelist later. I’ve found it’s more effective in shielding users before they get dog piled, rather than reacting after they suffer through it.

Over the past few hours, my timeline was descended upon by very ugly users who have been spewing profanity and vulgar language.

They obviously have a network and descended en mass.

I just blocked 5 domains and didn't lose a single follower.

Later I'll try to figure out how to remove their posts.

Hopefully I got them all. Apologies if you see something vulgar.

Adding: Blocked three more domains. Didn't lose a single follower.

@mastodonmigration @Teri_Kanefield You won’t be able to stay ahead of the garbage if you try to block domain by domain. You want an automated solution that leverages the collective moderation efforts of the Fediverse.

I use FediBlockHole (https://pypi.org/project/fediblockhole/) and sync with the oliphant unified tier 2 blocklist (https://codeberg.org/oliphant/blocklists)

Set it up to run daily in cron and you’ll see an immediate improvement.
