So there’s something specific to alcohol.

Being widespread. One bad set of laws in bad place in bad time (propination laws in eastern Europe in XVIII-XIX century) caused untold suffering and is keenly felt to this day, showing how easily hundreds of millions of people can be fucked up by poisonous commodity.

I’m not for entirely banning alcohol, but only because it would be rather futile, but for restrictions in its selling and far going educational campaigns to finally get rid of it - and it is possible, even if not entirely, looking at the decline of consumption of other poison, tobacco.

I think of it a lot in the same way as the US’s pacific ocean and Caribbean territorial expansion and involvement in central america as a response to the Cuban Missile crisis and Soviet posturing.

The “Cuban” missile crisis was started by USA putting nukes in Turkey.

It would be absolute crazy for Serbia to not wanting to join BRICS since the west is absolutely vehement in its hostility against it. Then again, slavic governments after destruction of socialism are usually the exact kind of brainwormed compradors to do it.

Hands down best 40k author, however a lot of that is coming from him somewhat downplaying the grotesque over the top grimdarkness of entire setting and just writting it more like either traditional war story (Gaunt) or occult mystery (Eisenhorn) with plenty of horrors present but more related to the genre than to setting. Sadly i didn’t read Ravenor trilogy or Bequin novels, can’t get them in Poland.

Also 40k recently got some interesting authors rising. David Annadale or Robert Rath are getting some quality stuff out, not like the Goto shit.

His stories are pretty conventional and honestly somewhat boring, but his pen is unique, not even Tolkien managed to make the story flow so smooth.

how the guy who was walking around calling himself “Jesus from Nazareth” was actually totally from Bethlehem the whole time.

Iirc the gist of the issue why they wrote that was the same as the problem with Jesus being descendant of David through Joseph - he needed to fit into the messiah prophecy. And he couldn’t do that being a Galilean. Ancient Judeans were pretty chauvinistic overall in who is counted to even be a true Jew, remember the background of a tale of good Samaritan or how Herod was constantly bashed for being Edomite despite building spectacular center of worship.

It wasn’t a mistake though, they did tried. Fleeing ROC remnants were supplied by USA with naval force overwhelmingly stronger than what PLA could muster back then and the attempt to finish the war was thwarted. After that Taiwan became one of the US puppets so the status quo is kept even to this day.

Pretty weak one considered that after 9/11 one of the supposedly most civilized countries (at least according to its citizens) invaded 2 unrelated countries and kept wrecking them for decades, killing millions and plunging dozens of millions into suffering.
