I am making cakes to take to work tomorrow. I know I don't do this very often because the box of food colourings has a use by date of April 2022, and I've only opened the purple.....

I am thinking of making my next Tilly and the Buttons Indigo dress with just the sleeve from the flounce sleeve, leaving off the flounce. So not a long sleeve, and not a short one but half way between the both. Has anyone done this? I know if I asked before the bird site imploded I would get a response from loads of people, including Tilly's team so I am hopeful I will get some kind of useful response here!

Not sure I'm going to finish my dress today, but when I do finish it, it will have this label in...

I've always said that Teen can have whatever music lessons they like, that I think learning music, any music, is important. Teen is 19 now, and not had any formal music lessons since 2020. Teen has just asked if that still applies, and whether it would include instrument rental, as they would like to learn saxophone.

So it looks like we're renting a sax and getting lessons for Teen :)

(Yes, that will always apply)

(I wonder if the same place does adult recorder lessons....)

Teen went off to stay the weekend with some friends who are already in Uni this year, and has returned with renewed excitement for starting uni in September:)

Also found a 5 floor bookstore and bought several books. Yep, definitely still my kid :)

And because I am actually not really a grown up, I like to make a bird out of my knitting once I've turned my heel...

Very soggy commute photo this morning. This is supposed to be a field that leads down to to the tow path, and then the river is the other side of the tow path, but it looks like the river runs through the field!

Abandoned farm. I learned two fun facts on this trip. The first is that stinging nettles were mixed in with the weeds surrounding the barn. The second fun fact is that even if you just brush against them, stinging nettles are surprisingly painful. Anyway, here's more abandoned houses and farms if you are interested: https://www.abandonedamerica.us/abandoned-homes

RandomYarning,
@RandomYarning@mastodon.world avatar

@AbandonedAmerica ouch :( nettles are nasty things. But my mum always says Dock leaves which are the cure are always growing with nettles. Not sure it's true but think if you look for Dock leaves, by the time you find them, the stinging is fading anyhow before you rub Dock leaves all over the stings.

This morning Teen and I are off to a university open day, for the uni Teen has a confirmed Sept 2024 place. We will have a talk all about the subject Teen will be studying, we will see the different accommodation options, and Teen can see the area and campus.

I am taking my knitting for the train journey!

Colleague and I were going through some old deeds this week, and found an 1889 deed hand written on vellum. Sometimes my job is a little humdrum but sometimes you get to touch something like that :)

As it is a bit chilly, it has motivated me to block All The Things today. Time for them to have a soak, a gentle stretch, and to have their ends sewn in, and the gift items to be sent to the tiny baby head they are meant for! @knitting

Did the first leg of a fun train holiday today: London to Amsterdam in 4h45 by Eurostar. As it was my birthday, I splashed out on a standard premier ticket, got too busy drinking white wine and forgot to take a picture.

The final destination will be Łódź (pronounced Woodj) in Poland.

As ever, thanks to @seatsixtyone for the inspiration!

A small change of pace for today, working on my godmother's annual socks gift. It is all well and good starting them in plenty of time but I must remember to keep knitting on them! @knitting

I'm in Amsterdam for a few days. Any recommendations about things to see, places to eat, etc? Bearing in mind that I've been to Amsterdam many times before so I've done most of the obvious touristy things.

RandomYarning,
@RandomYarning@mastodon.world avatar

@brunogirin just generally, have pancakes, Amsterdam pancakes are the best!

Working the short rows on my Tin Can Knits Embers sweater. This will make the back of the neck higher than the front, so it is more comfy. The neck is quite tight, so anything that will help is good! My first time knitting a top down yoked sweater, so I will adjust for future ones (I've done top down other type sweaters, and bottom up yoked sweaters) and use a more relaxed cast on. @knitting

All the colourwork on my Tin Can Knits Embers sweater is done. I have ever so much left of the contrast colours left, in fact I am thinking of making a cardigan with the leftovers, there is so much left!

I do love the way the contrast colours glow in the navy background.

Later today I shall be meeting my friend and returning to her the squares her mum knitted, all sewn up in a blanket. I finished it a while ago, but we have not been free to do the handover until today....

New socks! The socks on my feet are a much more colour accurate photo. Hermione's Everyday Sock. I do like the way the knit purl pattern basically looks a mess until you block them, and especially wear them :) @knitting

Photo shows a pair of Hermione's Everyday Socks in shades of pinks and purples, on sock blockers and in fairly terrible lighting.

And it is cool enough that I might get some work done on the baby hat for my colleague (baby has already arrived and keeps featuring in photos wearing a cardigan I made for Baby's older siblings, in this yarn). @knitting
