Community update, plus new rule: advertising is now banned

In the beginning, it was just me. When I joined Lemmy what I really missed about reddit was the ‘curated twitter’ subs where every post was just a nice little thought someone had had. There were meme communities already but nothing quite right, it was mostly deep-fried shitposting. I think this was even before the new...

ReadyUser31,

Thanks! I’ll change the rule to also specify no brand promotion.

ReadyUser31,

I am minded to lean much more towards banning all corporate accounts. They get enough airtime already, if you want to see that stuff you’ll find it easily enough elsewhere.

It was funny for a year or two when the Wendy’s account was pure rude to everyone but that time has passed.

ReadyUser31,

Someone, somewhere, is making decisions about piracy without understanding how it works. And no one could be bothered to correct them.

ReadyUser31,

The trouble is in England if you don’t use deliveroo or whatever, the only food you can get on takeaway (delivered or collection) is kebabs or pizza. The main restaurants tend not to bother with their own takeaway.

ReadyUser31,

Totally agree. It’s such a shame the issues with lemmy can’t be fixed to Beehaw’s satisfaction.

ReadyUser31,

An old MS-DOS game from the 90s called Solar Winds, by Epic Megagames. It was top down and you flew around battling spaceships and doing missions in space. I absolutely loved it as a kid. Pretty sure you can get it for free now.

Actually yes hereit is www.playdosgames.com/online/solar-winds/

ReadyUser31,

Nice, great time too. Where’s the model from?

ReadyUser31,

Nice! My party would immediately attempt to adopt this guy. Good luck.

ReadyUser31,

Hunter Biden is also 53 years old. This isn’t some juvenile runaway with a cushty job provided by his dad, he’s some old dude. At what point is Joe Biden no longer responsible for him?

ReadyUser31,

He is very good at the following things:

  • being born rich
  • investing in a slam dunk future technology everyone on the planet knows we will need, eg money on the internet, electric cars, space ships
  • taking risks in combining the above

That is about as far as his skillset runs. As we’ve seen from twitter, when he doesn’t have an entire layer of his organisation set up to run interference in him, he quickly runs companies into the ground. He has had zero original ideas.

He’s also a dangerous alt-right racist nutjob.

ReadyUser31,

Retaining some ability to spend and use cash is vital because otherwise, all our financial transactions are totally controlled by the banks, and they are completely untrustworthy. The cost is inconvenience.

Ban private jets to address climate crisis, says Thomas Piketty (www.theguardian.com)

Questions of social and economic class must be at the centre of our response to the climate crisis, to address the huge inequalities between the carbon footprints of the rich and poor and prevent a backlash against climate policies, the economist Thomas Piketty has said....

ReadyUser31,

It’s the same argument as banning private schools - if the rich have to use the same infrastructure as the rest of us, they’ve got less incentive to dismantle it.
