THE EVIL DEAD is probably one of my absolute favorites. While I do give the edge to 2, it’s only because I enjoy the humor. This movie was a landmark in horror. It was a cutting edge film for 83 that still looks great today. The film feels just as unhinged and chaotic as the first time I watched it.

RichTate,

@onelson That’s probably one of the best descriptions I’ve ever seen. I’m going to have to rewatch DEAD BY DAWN soon after seeing BC’s explanation of how the 2 movies fit together.

RichTate,

@onelson I posted a link a little earlier!

It was a fun and wild ride in horror cinema.

RichTate,

@onelson I like the fact that it's an easy way to track. It's also steered me to other films I otherwise would probably never have discovered.

RichTate,

@onelson I like it so much I subscribe to one of their paid tiers just to support. It's a great, functional site with a pretty decent mirroring via the app.

DEATH LINE had way more star power then I was anticipating. Donald Pleasance & Christoper Lee were awesome. I also feel like the opening credits were designed with acid in mind. What is with their weird synthpop soundtrack? Some of the shots hang on too long. It’s not very good at suspense. There is some reasonable gore. I was not expecting to be such a polished attempt at a horror picture.

RichTate,

Nor was I expecting cannibal subterranean dwellers but here we are. 🤷🏻‍♂️

THE AMITYVILLE HORROR is truly a cinematic experience. I loved the series of quick cuts and splicing. The film does a great job of keeping you on your toes. The score is a fairytale nightmare. It’s a classic movie that leans heavily into suspense. While it might be based on a sham, it’s an awesome movie.

DEMON HOUSE gets a bad rap. The opening montage is one of the bleakest and oppressive things I’ve seen in sometime. It’s an emotionally draining picture that just keeps getting worse. This is slow boil horror at its finest. It’s chock full of dread. I was holding my breath for a significant amount of this movie. It is definitely worth a watch.

Tonight’s second movie: THE LAST EXORCISM (2010)

(NGL, that last one was some heavy shit).

RichTate,

@Louboutinlatte Amen 🙏🏼 😂

RichTate,

@Louboutinlatte Loved the low-key EXORCIST mention.

Evil Dead Rise (2023)

I'm prepared for this to disappoint. I will not let it get me down if it is.

RichTate,

@onelson I thought it was brilliant. Paid great homage to the franchise while being its own film.

Tonight’s movie: DEMON HOUSE (2019)

(A watch along with @Louboutinlatte).

(Kujo is also fine. He’s got a swollen toe. Captain Licksalot has no impulse control)).

SLEEPAWAY CAMP has some awesome practical effects. It’s another cast full of douchebags and that makes the killing so satisfying. The deaths are creative and unique. This is one of the rare 80s slashers that tried to get inventive and not follow the usual format. And holy shit. That ending.

RichTate,

@onelson A wise man indeed. 🧐
