Wow. Such a tough subject. Sounds like a pretty somber “yes” vote from our aldermen. Glad to hear about their intent to pursue legal action though.
Also, i cant get over the fact that the paraprofessional makes less than 20k. The fact that we as society put such little value into the people responsible for our children is very upsetting.
I feel super conflicted about it, but would hold my nose while voting yes. I think @steinbring really hit the nail on the head regarding how the state legislature’s hand in all this.
The new apartment complex near Metro Market is seeking approval to lease up to 90 of their 251 units as AirBnBs for up to 2 years. What are your thoughts?
I don’t have a picture right now, but gosh the new skyscraper in the Historic Third Ward is really going up quickly. Every time I’m over there, I swear it has added another floor or two. Any bets on whether it will be finished before the Couture is?
They just started the curtain wall last week! Always the most exciting aspect of a project!
Now that they are above the parking garage level, I suspect that floors will be assembled quicker than before. It looks like both towers are neck & neck in terms of topping out. I’m betting that the Courture will reach its final height first, but wouldn’t be surprised if 333 water opens to tenants first even if the Courture beats it with reaching its final height.
This is great! I lived in chicago briefly & had a micro-park like these right next door. Used to spend so much time there, it was my favorite place in the neighborhood.
I love to see Milwaukee embracing the micro park concept & really appreciate the way that they are handling programming in these spaces.
I hope they are able to secure funding! The proposed extensions make a lot of sense & will make the system far more useful. Particularly looking forward to the Brady street extension.
It really is crazy! Visibility is super low, lots of people with masks, and a high uv index on top of it lol. Hopefully it will dissipate soon.
Whats crazier are the restaurants who still think today is a good day to open all their windows lol. Walked past one downtown today & felt so bad for the workers.
I use the Milwaukee subreddit’s yearly community created ‘best of’ for new food recommendations (I eat out 4-6 times per week, it’s a problem) I think it’s a great source of information, and I’m wondering if it’s something we should have on @Milwaukee. As a follow-up the subreddit had lots of great resources, so is...
So awesome! Been waiting forever for them to release their proposals! Excited to see them finally arrive :)
I agree that freeway removal option 2 seems best & will most certainly be attending all the public meetings to advocate for it. NGL though, I’d honestly be pretty thrilled with most of the options they presented… They all seem like a really significant upgrade for walkability through downtown, particularly improvement options 2/5/6. I’m really impressed with what they came up with.
Your city likely has a “comprehensive plan”–a long document detailing hopeful initiatives and goals for your local community. These documents are crafted by a very small number of people, which means if there’s something you want in there that isn’t, you have the power to change that, and then take real action to make...
This! Engaging in local government is the best way to change your city for the better. Milwaukee for example is getting ready to release their 2040 plan, which includes some incredible initiatives that were brought on by public input.
To add to this, a lot of other organizations have comprehensive plans that the public can get involved with as well. WisDOT’s 2050 rail plan comes to mind & has a huge impact on the Fox Valley

Sales tax approval was already a given (IMO), but I am quite happy to see my elected officials look at fighting the bullshit. About half the article is dedicated to how that will be done.
Very good point :) What they presented for national ave absolutely blew me away! Such an amazing walkable design. Hopefully even if they keep 794, they make similar improvements to walkability
After getting pissed off at 60th Street enough times I have sent a proposal to West Allis to at least paint a bike lane north of where it stops (at Arthur). A year or two ago, the section south of Arthur got narrowed from four to two lanes and had painted bike lanes added, and given that plus the fact that most parts of 60th...
Amazing! Hopefully they provide a positive response.
Ive havent contacted the city for bike lanes, but have reported traffic lights that didnt meet the WMUTCD guidelines for pedestrian timing & signage to my alderman. While the changes were a but more minor than i was hoping to see, they did make adjustments to the timing and signage very quickly.
