A great read from the team over at Duke Uni : https://web.law.duke.edu/cspd/mickey/ which disambiguates the mickey mouse/public domain debate (and in turn what I have been waiting for to improve my own understanding)

Tip to people: If you want your announcement or press release shared widely, put the link to the online version into the email version. It's far easier for the email recipients to share a URL than to share the email text or attachment.

I'm still amazed how many comms teams don't get this basic point.

SarahHLib,

@petersuber https://openaccess.ox.ac.uk/oxfos24 blinks innocently (and yes I did include the link in my comms)

If I liked a certain social-media platform, I'd start hating it the minute it deliberately started slowing down my attempts to click through to read what I wanted to read.

is motivated more by spite than service. How many more X users will become ex users?

SarahHLib,

@petersuber They've also just made tweetdeck 'pay £8 a month only' too.

The Open Access Directory (#OAD) just launched its new list of university rights-retention OA policies.
https://oad.simmons.edu/oadwiki/University_rights-retention_OA_policies

There are already different lists around the web for uni policies taking different approaches to rights retention. This an attempt to capture them all.

Remember that OAD is a #crowdsourced #wiki and depends on the #OA community to keep it current and comprehensive.

[ordered some, will order more, want to always have the next book ready - thanks!]

Help.

I need #English books to read to my daughter (9).

She suggests Famous Five but I would like something with a bit more modern "mindset" than the girls always helping in the kitchen and the boys in the barn.

Ideas?

Also, thanks for boosts as my bubble is German speaking.

Also, wow! boost some of those good answers from the #Fediverse community... wow! ⬇️⬇️⬇️

SarahHLib,

@samsteiner depending on her reading age. Anything scholastic is fun! I loved Tamora Pierce (knights in fantasy) but it might be a bit to YA for middle grade...
