Reading a news article I just learned that the astrological date for Beltane is actually May 5th though everybody celebrates it on May 1st technically tomorrow is the true Beltane. So if you missed it on the 1st you have a second chance to do it again tomorrow.

As a vegetarian who tries to buy as much vegan products as possible it is my opinion that we do not need leather-bound books.
There are hardcover books and softcover books and that's enough, isn't it? And of course ebooks. There simply is no necessity these days for books to be bound in leather.

I think about this because an author in the pagan/witchcraft/magick community has announced a special edition of one of his books, which will be leather-bound.
Not happy about this. Besides, it's really expensive. If at least it was faux leather. sigh

@siochanta isn't there a way to use like the gourd plant as a type of leather? I don't know if it's gourds but I feel like it is a gourd and you can like harden it and shape it and use it like leather. I'm not positive if it's gourds but I know there's a plant you can definitely use in place of actually using leather. That should be like all the rage now.

Returned to my workbench recently, and tonight I finished sanding on the largest staff I've made yet-- it's an inch or two taller than I am (5 foot 11) and is as wide as a soda can at the head end.

I've decided I'm going to inscribe references to as much of the knowledge I've gained in my Druidic pursuits on its surface as possible. I'm hopeful I can do enough to submit images of it, with explanations, as my Druidic review to formally finish the grade with OBOD.

I know the Fediverse has some readers, so of the Fediverse, I have a question for you!

When you're planning on doing a tarot reading (whether it's for yourself or a client), what are some things you need to have or do first?

Speaking for myself, I've settled into a routine of making myself some tea and lighting a candle before I do anything. I'm not sure what about this particular combination gets me into the right mindset for a reading, but it does.

What about you?

@quietcatatelier before prep I've never done anything fancy. After how ever I always make sure to eat some dark chocolate. Gotta recharge that juju energy. I also thank my cards for a job well done. And when it's just me and them, after a reading, I cleanse and clean them.

Today I received 3 books in the mail. Hard cover, used. I ordered them from thriftbooks.com a place I order from A LOT. It's a 3 book series starting with The Iron Dragon's Daughter. A book I read a very long time ago, that blew my mind. I lost it in a move. When I was reminded of it the other day, I went looking for it on thriftbooks and discovered that 2 more books were written since back then. So for less than 14 bux, shipping included, I ordered all three. This was 5 days ago. I'm looking forward to rereading this wild sci-fi adventure once again. Especially because I'm an adult now.

My husband and I have repeatedly tried to explain to his mother that the gifts she gives us for holidays/birthdays are excessive, unneeded, and just causes us to spend a lot of time re-homing the stuff we can't use so it doesn't start filling the house from floor to ceiling. We've tried explaining how wasteful and uncomfortable this is for us. We've tried assuring her that instead of giving us ANY gifts (being adults with disposable income, if we want something, we can just get it for ourselves), she can just TELL us she loves us, and that's enough.

Nope. Somehow the conversation ALWAYS ends up focused not on the boundaries we're trying to express, but on how it's hurtful for us to have those boundaries at all, because gift-giving is her Love Language (TM) and she can't help it!

I don't think she realizes how manipulative she's being - she doesn't have a scheming or malicious bone in her body. Doesn't make it any LESS manipulative, though.

@Writch if gift giving is her love language, perhaps get her to give food? Food is always a necessity, and if it's to much for you, give to your local soup kitchen. That way you can see it as her giving the gift of opportunity. An opportunity for you to be kind and generous. It creates a flow that bennifits those who need her generosity most.
