Wow. It has been a long, long time since I heard a busy signal, but the Alaska Airlines customer help line (888-345-3640) and the main line (800-654-5669) give me an "All circuits are busy" and a busy signal, respectively. Le wow.

@Tarah
Fast busy or slow busy?

TIL there is such a thing as a PANA (Polycule Assigned Numbers Authority).

It's basically a person fulfilling the role of a RIR within all of their non-cohabitating bfs/gfs, allocating RFC1918 address space so they can peer their networks over site-to-site VPNs without address space collisions.

Never really thought about this before but I can totally see how it'd be a problem if you didn't have some level of coordination.

@azonenberg we were gonna switch to IPv6 to avoid this issue but one of the couples involved has a One Protocol Policy

People who live in the city proper in reaalllly underestimate how much fun and how much good trouble you can get in in the near suburbs. I have never had a problem with either of those things. If you tell me that you can’t find good food, good cocktails or good entertainment - or even good places open late, you are not trying hard enough or honesty just have a bad attitude. Because I go to both.

Some Auntie Lesley Chicago suburb recommendations:

I HAVE TO GO INTO THE CITY TO GET GOOD CRAFT COCKTAILS:
    Northcott Liquorette
    Subourbon
    Common Good
    Lilac Lounge
    Maize & Mash

AND STAND IN LINE FOR THREE DOTS:
    Hala Kahiki
    Standard Meadery & Honeybee Tiki

EVERYTHING CLOSES EARLY IN THE SUBURBS (just a few chains):
    Anyways
    Bar Louie
    Stonewood
    Millers Ale House

Microbreweries (just a few rock stars):
    Alter
    Church Street
    Lunar
    More
    Elmhurst
    Noon Whistle
    Phase Three

I WANT TO DO STUFF (sign up for the damn mailing list or Facebook page)
    Oak Brook Artisan Market
Pretty much the entire city of Elgin, they are insane
    Cantigny night events
    Hollywood Boulevard
    Morton Arboretum
    Glen Ellyn French market
    Naper Settlement
    Matrix Venue Naperville
    Brookfield Zoo
    Mitsuwa Marketplace
King Spa Niles & Super H Mart
    PFlag
    Rails 2 Trails
    Ravinia
    Brauer House
Pretty much all the forest preserves with boats for rent
    Blackwell Archery Range
    Lizzardo Museum of Lapidary Art
Will / Kane / DuPage County Fairgrounds events calendar
    North Central College Theater
    College of DuPage Theater
    Concordia University Band

THERE IS NO GOOD FOOD IN THE SUBURBS
    Sushi Ukai
    Maize & Mash
    More Brewing
    Chicago Prime
    Gibsons
    92 Town
    Vie
    Fonda Cantina
    Bonchon
    Asian Noodle House
    Ramen House Sinchan
    Savory Crust
    Meson Sabika
    Chef Ping
    Bombay Chopsticks
    Gene & Judes
    Johnnies

I WANT TO DO NERD SHIT
    Windycon
    Chicago TARDIS
    Games Plus
    Wandering Dragon Games Shop
    Anime Central
    Capricon
    Fan Expo
    Workshop 88
    BurbSec

    Microcenter
    Galloping Ghost

THERE IS NOWHERE TO JUST SHOP AND HANG OUT
    Naperville Riverwalk
    Downtown Glen Ellyn
    Oak Brook Mall

    List certainly not comprehensive. Enjoy.

It is your fault if you are bored and these are accessible to you.

Google Assistant kills off support for third-party note apps

The Google Assistant continues to circle the drain, with yet another feature loss.

    @arstechnica

I thought about going all-in on that feature for my grocery list once they announced the second change. Glad I didn't!

Stuff like this is a big part of why I've been actively trying to migrate most of my day-to-day activities off of Google platforms.

@arstechnica I'm really curious to see if this will do local processing for documents. That would be pretty sweet to have built into the operating system and run locally

I'm working with a nonprofit planning on an event in the near future, and we're working on internal comms.

We got a quote for a 1 day rental of fifteen squawkboxes for almost $700. SEVEN HUNDRED FUCKING DOLLARS. I can get the whole group a pile of retevis' for $200, and I can program them with CTCSS and such.

NGL... I may be a little pissed about that particular quote.

I found this thread by @maegul to be a pretty reasonable summary of the major points. Obviously it's coming from someone on the instance in question so take everything with a grain of salt, but it more or less tracks with what I've dug up myself trying to piece together what happened with .
