ShepherdPie,

You think poor people are driving golf carts around?

ShepherdPie,

I thought many cheeses don’t even contain (or a very small percentage) of lactose. I’m lactose intolerant and only have issues with milk and ice cream but never cheese.

Best Buy Membership "discount" (lemmy.world)

So I was shopping with my wife today and I said “oh let’s see if my membership helps out.” So we went and added the same item to each of our carts, and to our surprise, the total was the same! So what is it exactly that I’m paying for in this membership if the items “original price” is higher for me than it is for...

ShepherdPie,

FYI you can claim unemployment when businesses do this to you if you previously been working consistent hours.

ShepherdPie,

Batteries can show good voltage on a multimeter but then drop immediately once a load is applied if they’re failing.

ShepherdPie,

I don’t have a recommendation for a tester, but after about a decade of vaping and dealing with 18650s, I will say it can be beneficial to keep batteries paired together (on devices that require more than one cell) during their lifespan so that you don’t have one sagging from old age while the other is still performing well. This probably isn’t as big of an issue on normal electronics that don’t have a massive current load like an ecig, but something to keep in mind. I typically never break up a pair but when I used to have several pairs of batteries, I would just use a sharpie to mark a full set “A” or “1” while the next set is “B” or “2” to avoid mixing them up.

ShepherdPie,

Kinda hard with a “one size fits all” smartphone market in terms of both size and features.

ShepherdPie,

Oh yeah? Seems you dropped the “people have different needs and experiences” point pretty quick. This reads like someone who has their identity wrapped up in the purchases that they make and can’t handle someone criticizing multinational corporations.

ShepherdPie, (edited )

Their entire product line really went to shit around 2015, whether you’re talking about phones, TVs, or appliances. Now they just skate by on their previously good reputation and intertia.

ShepherdPie,

Death is a plausible ending to any day for everyone, though.

ShepherdPie,

I’m assuming they do this to prevent people from abusing this as a way to get someone else to pay for veterinarian bills and then adopting the pet right back.

ShepherdPie,

For me the first season was arguably one of the worst. I didn’t start enjoying it until around S3 with the time jump, but it’s been hit or miss since then. I just can’t stand how, for lack of a better word, sappy the show can be with the constant “cut to crewperson’s face giving an approving nod while Burnham gives a motivational, whispered speech backed by heartwarming music.” It all seems so over the top, lazy, and gimmicky. Rather than write better stories, they want to pull on your heartstrings with cheap tropes to keep people watching.

ShepherdPie,

If you think he’s a liar and a con man, then why even bring up his promises? They’re obviously false. SpaceX has done great work despite who their current CEO is.

ShepherdPie,

Okay? I thought we already established that he’s a liar. You really sound like a fan of the guy since you follow his every word, but none of this detracts from the accomplishments of the engineers working at these companies.

ShepherdPie, (edited )

Is your assertion that the US and Israel will no longer be allies if the US doesn’t support Netanyahu’s actions? Isn’t Israel’s government made up of a lot more than a single man’s actions, and doesn’t Israel have a lot more to lose by losing us as an ally than we do by losing them? I say we call their bluff and let this murderer go to jail. The Israeli government will clean up the mess he made and still be our ally.

ShepherdPie,

Same goes for business. If you see a bank called “Reliable Credit” you know they’re going to specialize in super high interest loans. “Honest Car Sales” is going to sell you a car that breaks down before you even get home.

A lot of bills in congress seem to be labeled like this too. Anything with “freedom” in the name is going to be some authoritarian bullshit.

ShepherdPie,

They might gave been loss prevention. This is pretty common to see around here at places like Walmart.

ShepherdPie,

So did Ukraine until they gave them up at our behest because we promised we’d intervene if Russia were to invade them.

ShepherdPie,

How is it an offensive war if they’re still fighting on Ukrainian soil? I haven’t seen anyone propose invading Russia itself.

ShepherdPie,

I had to pay sales tax to purchase two tickets from a Ticketmaster subsidiary in a state where we have no sales tax. I even went through the hassle of contacting them and they just blew me off with “it’s to cover state and local taxes” which are nonexistant in reality.

ShepherdPie,

Because it’s insanely restrictive and can’t be used by most people or in most situations. It’s little more than a marketing ploy.

ShepherdPie,

So you’d rather more people die in avoidable traffic accidents because we weren’t allowed to develop this technology?

ShepherdPie,

What do those options matter if nobody is developing them and they only work in dense cities? You might as well be arguing for Star Trek-like transporter technology here.

ShepherdPie,

No, you have the meaning right.

ShepherdPie,

Great that’s admirable, but that isn’t going to happen because it doesn’t work for most people and there is no political capital to make it happen, so what then?

ShepherdPie,

This is a giant strawman. What names have I called you? You’re the one doing mental gymnastics to defend the lack of action from these people who are paid and trained to handle situations like this.

You claim you “never said the police made the right call” yet you’re sitting here claiming every one of their actions were correct “because AR15 shoot far.” Absolutely absurd.
