de_Fuse v1.0 is now released! jan-hofmeier has been hard at work improving redNAND and isfshax, so everything is more or less stable enough for the big 1.0

Apple Vision Pro has the same effective resolution as Quest 3…Sometimes? And there’s not much app devs can do about it, yet.

Looking into how to set up a bluesky server.

Noticed this bit here, in the documentation. That's an interesting way to spell "cannot"

Almost convinced myself to buy a Steam Deck OLED during this trip but I can totally see myself not really using it anymore once I get home since I don't really take advantage of a portable form-factor and most games I play are pretty demanding other than maybe Stardew or some emulated retro games that I can already play/stream from my phone....

ShinyQuagsire,
@ShinyQuagsire@mastodon.social avatar

@Wunkolo tbh I've mostly used mine to get more usage out of my PC w/ remote play, Windows bluetooth is always too fiddly for me to really make it work as an HTPC

I found the most disgusting encoding hack with huge benefits. If you change the encoding pipeline from
+sRGB -> encode -> decode -> -sRGB
to
+sRGB -> +gamma -> encode -> decode -> -gamma -> -sRGB

it completely fixes block smear in dark areas:

oh ok lmao, Apple snubbed my security report.

visionOS's security model is so confusing to me bc 2D apps aren't allowed to see eye movements+hands bc typing/hover is sensitive right? But Persona broadcasts all of that to any app that asks incl during password boxes.

Every internal modern layoff announcement contains a variation of “this will help us increase our velocity”

And every time I see that, I cant stop thinking “increase velocity to irrelevance?”

yay, added support for standby mode to de_Fuse last night (and found a bug in my Pico firmware which caused the RTC to be unreadable by the Wii U on SDcardless)

also ran into the bug where PRSH OTP dumping doesn't work, on my devkit. So that's getting fixed before a version bump

ShinyQuagsire,
@ShinyQuagsire@mastodon.social avatar

oh and I also added support for Espresso bootrom+OTP dumping to minute, bc I was trying to see if de_Fuse exists on the Espresso.

afaict it does not unfortunately, so I guess only Renesas/BroadOn/idk screwed up, not IBM.

ShinyQuagsire,
@ShinyQuagsire@mastodon.social avatar

(on that note I still have no clue if IBM implemented a JTAG lockout fuse or not, there's virtually no documentation about even the OTP eFuses online, but I really hope they didn't lock it out on my devkit. as a treat.)

ShinyQuagsire,
@ShinyQuagsire@mastodon.social avatar

@Rairii oh lol, I think I technically dumped my kiosk's OTP publicly so I've had them for a while now

This is more affordable that installing wires to hang up two 75" monitors in my living room.

ShinyQuagsire,
@ShinyQuagsire@mastodon.social avatar

@Migueldeicaza this is the future tho, you gotta think bigger. We could have a 75" VT100 CRT in our living rooms

AAAAAAAAAAA how tf does Android 14 have lag on the adaptive brightness, I cannot believe they shipped this steaming pile of garbage

ShinyQuagsire,
@ShinyQuagsire@mastodon.social avatar

it's not that the brightness is laggy btw, it's that every time it automatically adjusts the brightness the entire OS FPS tanks to like 20fps

wow, modern keyboards seem to be terrible. I've never seriously thought about keyboard latency and now that I did it makes me very sad https://danluu.com/keyboard-latency/

(I could definitely do a better test setup than the one described in the paper--it would be a lot of fun to build something based on an FPGA which has a rudimentary USB PHY that just listens for HID packets)

ShinyQuagsire,
@ShinyQuagsire@mastodon.social avatar

@whitequark reminded of a thing I read where someone found that a consistent flaw in their 3D prints was traced back to SD read times.

Have like, zero confidence in gaming keyboard OEM's ability to do async correctly if their microcontrollers are also driving the LEDs. Or anyone, really.

that Operation Triangulation talk is wild (and scary) stuff. secret hardware MMIO registers being used to bypass hardware security measures is...definitely something

@whitequark I was disappointed the Rosetta-on-Ubuntu thing didn't work for the Android build process (somehow, but lol not surprised), bc my MacBook is the first machine I've had w/ 64GiB :(
