Rvision 0.8.0 is here! Its toolbox now includes camera calibration tools, ORB keypoint detection and matching, pyramid resampling, and much more. It can also work in combination with GStreamer pipelines to read feeds from a wide range of cameras. More info at https://swarm-lab.github.io/Rvision/index.html

The has awaken!

The dried "snot" on the left spent 3 years in the drawer. A little bit of humidity and food turned it into the sprawling yellow goo on the right :-)

SimonGarnier,

@hrbrmstr This is no detritus! This entire yellow biomass on the right is a single-celled, multi-nucleated organism called Physarum polycephalum, a Myxomycete commonly found in our temperate forests. On the left, it's the same cell in its sclerotia state (i.e., fully desiccated). That thing has been dormant, fully dried up for 3 years! And just like that it's alive again thanks to a bit of water and food.

The "Remote - Tunnels" extension in Visual Studio Code might be the feature that will make me move all my cross-platform R development away from RStudio and toward VSCode. This thing works brilliantly (so far) and is so much easier to set up than a RStudio Server. Thoughts?

SimonGarnier,

@hrbrmstr “Outlook-ify”? What’s that? That sounds scary.

Ants that build bridges? Isabella Muratore, our postdoc extraordinaire, explained to @NPR All Things Considered the work on this topic she presented at the last @entsocamerica meeting. You can listen to the recording here: https://www.npr.org/2023/11/14/1213008636/how-army-ants-architecture-demonstrates-their-collective-intelligence
