Sorry to hear of the passing of iconoclastic [for lack of a better word] indie rock figure Steve Albini. I have friends who recorded and hung out with him and although I disagree with some of his hotter takes, I’m sad for their loss and that of the greater #music community
What’s up with people who just… don’t smile for photos? What would possess someone to start doing that? Doesn’t it kind of make them feel like schmucks? #NoOffense
Alan Holdsworth’s guitar playing makes me slightly nauseated, something about the weird tight chorus and the harmonic choices just give me the heebie jeebies #music#heebiejeebies
@mrcompletely he plays with fluidity and isn’t afraid to play ‘out’ (both of which I normally love) but his choices are just weirdly unsettling, like it’s the soundtrack to metastasis or something
It may not seem like it now, but during their time, the #SeldomScene were a groundbreaking #bluegrass act. Their willingness to cover rock songs and contemporary material was antithetical to the bluegrass gatekeepers of the time.
They also kept their day jobs. "Seldom Scene" was coined because at first they only played once a week and didn’t stray too far from their Washington D.C. home base.
Their influence on later bands and newgrass in general is undeniable.
@vriphish76 I think the current jamming style (extreme patience for the “treading water” go-nowhere jams) allow for short passages of breathtaking originality to emerge. The Mexico CDT is a snooze fest until 21:00, then it goes into several amazing mini jams. Fuego and DWD from Sphere were similar.
(I love the fact that I own probably the only extant copy of the insane book this image came from, and I alone can choose when the internet gets another dose of its uncanny goodness)
