I don’t care what people say, the most important historical event in my lifetime was the discovery and release of the lost Steely Dan tape containing The Second Arrangement

The court ruling literally refers to him as an officer of the US Executive branch

The military isn’t relevant to the point I was making in that comment. I was pointing out the cognitive dissonance of the court ruling stating as a Finding of Fact that POTUS is “Chief Executive Officer of the Executive Branch” of the US, yet deciding that POTUS is also not an officer of the US. It’s in the court’s own verbiage that POTUS is categorically an officer and said office is that of the US Executive Branch; ergo, POTUS would be an officer of the US.

Officer of the military ≠ officer in the military. Looping back to the point other commenters have made about civilian leadership over the military, the relevant section of the 14th Amendment establishes the existence of civilian offices under the US. The court finding also refers to POTUS as “Chief Executive Officer of the Executive Branch”. In each hypothetical scenario of the Commander in Chief being categorized as a civilian office or instead being categorized as a military office, it is covered by the critical word “or” in “hold any office, civil or military, under the United States…”. Ultimately, the role of Commander in Chief is an “office, civilian or military, under the United States”, and to “have engaged in insurrection” while in this office of the US would disqualify a person from holding this office again (except the court decided otherwise 🙄).

The judge: “POTUS isn’t an officer of the United States”

Also the judge:

I sure hope questions of fact don’t get overturned on appeal as you say they rarely do, since that excerpt is from the Finding of Fact section of the court ruling.

I’m not a fan of Bill Maher, so here’s a paraphrasing by Stevie Wonder instead:

“When you believe in things that you don’t understand,

Then you suffer

Superstition ain’t the way, yeah”

This might be a coincidence, but Kamala’s fantasy at the start of the movie and the music video for Beastie Boys’ “Intergalactic” are both about defending a city from a giant robot.

Anybody else feel like there were a few scenes which had too much information removed due to hasty editing? Mainly how quickly Carol flies to the Kree spaceship when the characters first start switching, and later when the movie skips over how Carol’s spaceship docked with the struggling SABER space station.

Aladna reminded me of Pabu from The Bad Batch: each is an ocean planet with a single island society holding a utopian close community.

The make-up department must be getting a break since it seems like the Kree are getting decreasingly blue and Fury’s space crew is getting decreasingly alien-looking (Skrull or otherwise).

I think there is a canonicity error in the flashback with Maria and Carol talking; Monica is said to have been “blipped”, but the term wouldn’t make sense in the usage until after Thanos’ snap was reversed. The term “dusted” would make more sense for the setting.

The mid-credits scene could potentially be in the same X-Men universe as in Multiverse of Madness, even though Maria and Prof. X are both alive in this movie’s alt universe. Since the bangles interact with time as well (as seen in the Ms. Marvel series), they could have sent Monica to an earlier point in that universe.

I feel bad for Aamir having to go almost the entire movie (a couple of days?) without his glasses. Couldn’t SABER have made him some?

For me, it was The Beatles’ new “Now and Then” track. A couple of things to mention though:

  • I was born after 1996. This is the only new Beatles song released in my lifetime that hasn’t appeared as bootlegs or the like. Unless Hell freezes over and they release “Carnival of Light”, this is the only opportunity I will ever have to experience a truly new track by the group.
  • I didn’t have as strong of a reaction the first that I heard it. Or the second time. I suffer from TMJ, which tenses and aches my jaw and puts pressure on my inner ear, oftentimes dampening my hearing. It wasn’t until late the date of release that my jaw popped and released the tension which it had had that day and I could hear clearly. The first thing I did was put on the new song so I could experience it in its whole. And there were so many layers to it that I couldn’t hear with the first listens. There was a mix of appreciation marred by the frustration of how fleeting the moment was, not just from being part of the once in a lifetime zeitgeist but also a brief moment of physical relief and undamped senses.

I facepalm seeing people who are usually on top of the ball with their political views sharing articles from Mediaite, The Daily Beast, and The New Republic without recognizing the prominence of inflammatory and agenda-pushing bad journalism across these platforms. It may not be every single story or headline but it’s a consistent theme, especially with the more viral articles. The same types of flaws are a major aspect of what Fox News is condemned for and lead to people picking a side of a story or picking a party just for emotion and in-grouping rather than reason.

There’s this recently uncovered tape that I was referencing. It’s decent quality, but definitely not as pristine as what Steely Dan is known for.

I was more meaning material that was written/recorded decades ago, but that’s notable too

Stay tuned until the end of the English credits for a bonus audio gag (not a full post-credits scene)

It looks like this discussion post got published multiple times btw

Not to be confused with Sir Isaac Newton’s dog, forgotten villain

I’m not very familiar with the franchise, but I did find this:

“Aside from the aforementioned meanings behind the name “Diamond Dogs,” it is also a reference to the David Bowie album of the same name, whose work has previously been referenced in other games in the series.”

The Bowie album title and the album’s group of characters by the same name are often believed to have been inspired by Newton’s dog, so MGS V is at least indirectly influenced by it.
