Young Americans are piling the blame for their student debt balances on conservatives, according to a poll by Generation Lab provided exclusively to Axios.
I mean, kinda, yeah. You saw what happened to Sanders.
But so long as the red team is in full literal Nazi mode, we really shouldn’t bitch too much about the not-evil options. We don’t want to sentence the US with another Trump because the alternative is uninspiring.
It’s a shitty system, but let’s work with that we got.
of at least a half-million Americans is to argue — nonsensically — that the virus came out of the Wuhan virology lab and therefore something, something, something Trump is not responsible. He’s doing this with House Oversight Committee hearings this week.
Rep. Eli Crane used the derogatory phrase in describing his proposed amendment to a military bill. Democratic Rep. Joyce Beatty asked that his words be stricken from the record.
“The military was never intended to be, you know, inclusive. Its strength is not its diversity. Its strength is its standards”
Ah, yeah he’s a racist piece of shit. And also, unsurprisingly, 100% wrong. Speaking as a veteran (US), the diversity of our military is a HUGE source of its strength. This dumbass is literally advocating for weakening our military for the sake of being racist.
Noted. As other posters have mentioned, it carries a lot of historical connotation… I’ve either never run into it or never noticed it before (again, seems benign, barring the historical context). Thankfully I’ve also never used it, cuz it’s kind of a shitty descriptor - not specific at all.
I discovered today that my most played game on Steam is Astronner with about 500 hours, and my second most played is Surviving Mars with about 500 hours.
I had over 300 days logged on my main, vanilla through cata.
For me, and I think most people with an obscene amount of time logged - we weren’t there for the game, we were there for the guild. It’s been years since I played, but I’m still in regular contact with some of those people - WAY more so than old friends from school and such.
Those folks were my digital family - I don’t regret those hours for a second.
Not actually sure if it’s a universal scale, so could be you just grew up with a different system, but it’s a grade point average: 4.0 means all A’s so far. There are some instances of students cranking out a 4.1 or some higher value, but I’m not sure how that happens… like you can score 100% on every assignment, and then take advantage of extra credit to get your class grade higher than 100%, but as far as GPA calculation goes, an A is an A… I think.
…also pretty much everyone I went to highschool with who went on to a trade are now financially WAY ahead of the rest of us dumbasses who bought into some other path. You may be less educated, but definitely not stupid - and on the same page, being educated doesn’t mean someone isn’t stupid… listen to a doctor start talking about something other than their immediate field of study, and you start to realize pretty quick that some of them are just absolute hopeless morons.
Thanks! It’s going well so far! Actually rocking a 4.0, but the class I’m in now (microbiology) will likely be putting an end to that. Confident in a passing grade at least, and that’s all I really need for admission into the nursing program. Things are moving along!
Here’s hoping. Cracking away at nursing prerequisites, so assuming that path goes as planned, I’m a couple years away from a job as a nurse, which will hopefully translate to a large enough pay check to afford health insurance.
I did residential construction for a couple years, then 4 in the military, so no stranger to physical exhaustion… Insomnia hit even in those times.
The only way to predictably get a decent chunk of sleep is to kind of bank hours in the days leading up to it. Like if get 0 to maybe 3 hours per night through the work week, I’ll sleep like a baby come Saturday.
Never been on meds for it. Was afraid to report it when I was active duty (fucking stupid) and now my rating isn’t high enough to cover prescriptions and I don’t have regular health insurance so… can’t afford them. :-/
My parents have always been left-wing hippies and entertained the odd conspiracy theory, but during the pandemic they got lost down YouTube rabbit holes and bought into Q-Anon and anti-vax ideas. They still don’t believe Covid is real (even though they blatantly had it…)....
My grandma was 100% sold on covid being some kind of left wing hoax. She died from covid.
…and now I’m the one being insensitive for acknowledging that she died an idiot, and likely took several others down with her. It’s like we’re supposed to just pretend her death was anything other than suicide by political zealotry.
I think I’ve settled on the latter. Disagreement is maybe best communicated by the absence of an upvote? And downvotes work best when they signal something that is just off base, and while not reportable, is not appreciated at a broad cultural level.
I think of it like a digital facial expression. Upvoting is akin to smiling or conveying some other positive emotion like affirmation or understanding (even if the subject matter is inherently negative). Downvote is the opposite- someone says something irl that makes you frown or grimmace, or you know they’re telling you a lie, your expression can convey that without a single word. Here, downvote.
There’s no real etiquette - if you feel like you want to give an up or down vote, just do it and don’t put too much thought into it.
It’s no secret that the relationship between Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert has never been worse. The two U.S. representatives yelled at each other on and off the House floor. Greene recently called Boebert a “little bitch” to her face. And Boebert supported Greene’s removal from the Freedom Caucus.
Rapidly growing pet peeve of mine - the GOP bigwigs pretty consistently act like morons, cuz that’s what their base finds relatable; but don’t take the bait. These fuckers get away with causing SO MUCH damage to our country because we keep just giving them the village idiot pass. There’s a kind of blundering innocence that comes with dismissing them as stupid. Better to assume that while they excel at acting the fool, their actions are calculated and deliberate. These fuckers are evil, not stupid.
That’s true. I suppose it’s more of a compartmentalization: she’s fucking stupid when it comes to basic high school level information; but she’s competent and relentless at damaging the US. The latter is the one I care about about - don’t really give a shit about her academic struggles.
Don’t focus on the stupid, focus on the domestic terrorism.
