Without signatures or badges or big enough avatars or different sections for posting specific things or threads coming to top whenever someone posts in them or people who’ve know each other for years via username…
These people are using likeliness of actual people without their (or their heirs’/parents’ in case of dead people) permission to make money off of tragedies. I don’t know about you, but I think we as a society should have laws from preventing this from happening.
I think the author used both meanings at different times.
First time they mention interesting website designs at the cost of accessibility.
But the second time they mean how low the technical barrier is to access the modern (and bland) web and how it tries to caters to lowest common denominator.
