I have through an elaborate series of events come into possession of a series of raw IFO, VOB and BUP files (IE the raw contents of a DVD). VLC can play them, but I am trying to convert them to more-practically-usable MP4s. FFMPEG can do this but, interestingly, two of the VOD files contain multiple videos. The DVD "menu" invisibly skips to the right place in the video, I assume because an IFP or BUP told it to. Is there a way to extract that timing/bookmark data from the IFP/BUPs?

@whalecoiner I have this too, upstairs (just 1 floor) wifi is terrible due to thick concrete floors.

I never bothered to wire it up properly though, instead I got two of those ethernet-over-power boxes to get wired internet upstairs. Surprisingly good really, but nothing beats actual ethernet.

What I don't understand is why people lament that Google killed RSS. Like... isn't RSS still there, ready for anyone to use? Maybe I don't get it since I never used it myself but if the problem is the lack of a good RSS reader couldn't people just... make one?

@Leviamicky @eniko Yeah, this. RSS readers used to be everywhere, even built into browsers. All websites used to offer RSS feeds, so it was really straightforward to add a couple of your favourite sites into your browser's RSS thingie and get a custom feed of all the new things you want to read.

The main reason I stopped doing this is because browsers no longer have this built in and a lot of websites don't offer feeds anymore.

wheres the fun in cutting through mountains using the terrain tool in openttd? part of the fun is working with the existing terrain and trying to get trains running at full speed while changing the terrain as little as possible

I asked Google Bard what the Dinky programming language is? It correctly stated I created it then it went on that it was used in the LucasArts adventure games (clearly confusing it with SCUMM) and then said Grim Fandago was written in Dinky. It wasn't even written in SCUMM. Someone that didn't know the correct answer would be horribly mislead.

So back in 2919 and one of my favourite emulation apps on the Mac – Boxer (http://boxerapp.com) – stopped working.

Someone did fork the project, but it ran a lot slower than before due to issues with some of the libraries.

So for a Friday night project I might finally port over all my DOS stuff to DOSBox (or whatever’s the best DOS emulator these days on the Mac… or maybe I should just make a VM?)

@devlin @heliomass Yeah, I'd say dosbox-x or dosbox-staging are probably the better forks at the moment.

That said, it's incredibly sad Boxer isn't supported anymore on modern Macs, since it's by far the best user experience. It's one of the reasons why my personal Mac is still at 10.14

@aetataureate @Modernmodron I remember hearing during the financial crisis years that car makers were reducing costs by using lower quality parts, so I think buying a car from slightly before might work out better than buying one that's a few years younger.

    @Sophie For me, tinnitus is definitely related to tiredness. It's way more pronounced when I've not slept well or am up too late.
