🪔 For : Military diploma of a Lycian sailor of the Miseno fleet, Sextus Memmius Clearchi. Dated to 16 November 140 AD, it attests to the granting of Roman citizenship to a Lycian sailor after 26 years of service in the imperial fleet. 📸 me

🪔 For the : remains of a roman temple built in the 2nd c AD on the Forum of Arles. The temple is the only remaining structure of the ancient Forum that can be seen today above the ground. 📸 me

🪔 This is a roman Cameo in sardonyx depicting Isis (Demeter?). Dated to the 1-2 century AD, it is part of the Ancient Gemstones Collection of Guy Ladrière, exhibited at the School of Jewelry Arts in Paris in 2023.

🪔 This is a group of temples at Nettersheim-Pesch, in Germany, called locally as . It is a Gallo-Roman temple complex dated to the 1-4th c. AD and dedicated to the cult of Matronae Vacallinehae.
🪔 The Gallo-Roman temple district was built on a hill above the confluence of the Wespelbach and Hornbach rivers. It is one of the best-preserved Roman cult sites in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. 👉 ALT

🪔 For French-speakers, here is the newly published "Archaeological Atlas of France". 📜 It was released by The French National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (Inrap).

🪔 Such atlas has never been published before. Its documentation comes from tens of thousands of excavations and archaeological surveys carried out by Inrap in France over the last few decades during preventive archaeology operations.

🪔 An extremely interesting article was published in the Science Advances magazine. The study says that major pandemic events of as well as periods of crisis are strongly associated with pronounced climate change, namely a drop of temperatures.
🪔 The chart shows the correlation between temperatures and diseases & periods of crisis in the Roman empire.

in 58 BC was born Livia Drusilla, Augustus’s devoted and influential wife who stayed with him for over fifty years, from 38 BC until his death in AD 14. She bore him no child, but after Augustus death, she secured the imperial succession for her son Tiberius.

🪔 This is a icosahedron-shaped game dice. Found in Egypt, it is dated to the 2nd c. BC. On each side there is a Greek letter from A to Y corresponding to numbers from 1 to 20. Now at BnF, Paris. 📸 Own pic.

🪔 This beautiful mosaic was found in 1786 at Saint-Colombe, near modern Vienne in France. Dated to the end of the 2nd c. AD, its vivid colors were obtained thanks to the use of the glass paste. It is now at the St-Romain-en-Gal museum. 📸 Own pic.

☀️ The theater of Cartagena was discovered and excavated only 30 years ago. Altars, sculptures and dedicatory inscriptions of the theater were saved from destruction as it was first transformed into a macellum, and later buried under medieval and later constructions.

✨️ is one of the oldest cities of Belgium - it was an important gallo-roman vicus at the intersection of the Reims-Trier and Metz-Tongeren roman roads. ☀️ For : A 4th c. AD stele with a dedication of a wife to her deceased husband, Centurion of Cataphracti: "To the Manes and in eternal memory of Klaudius Ingemuus, Centurion of the Senior Cataphracti Horsemen, who died at the approximate age of 35. Candida raised this tomb to her cherished husband and dedicated under the Ascia".

☀️ The theatre in Orange, France, is the only Roman theater in Europe to preserve its impressive scene wall: it is 103 meters long and 37 meters high. This theater is exceptionally well preserved and benefits from an extensive restoration program. 📸 Own pics.

☀️ Bibracte was the capital city of Aeudi celtic tribe. Established on the hilltop in the 3rd c. BC, it grew to almost 200 hectares of land, with a population of 30,000 by the middle of the 1st c. BC. The Aedui used to live in good terms with the Romans, but in 52 BC, Bibracte joined Vercingetorix' rebellion. The insurrection was put down by Julius Caesar, though he was merciful toward the city. Caesar spent a winter in Bibracte, enjoying spectacular views from the Bibracte hilltop. 📸 Own photos.

☀️ This is the Arch of Orange - it stood on the Via Agrippa to honour legionaries who conquered Gaul, then Tiberius had it renewed to celebrate victories over German tribes. During the Middle Ages, the arch became part of the town wall, which allowed it be exceptionally well preserved. 📸 Own pics.
