ToxicWaste,

Look at history: there where big and powerful right- and leftextreme goverments not far apart. Both sides where not a fun place to be in. Both where authoritarian dictatorships. If you go too far left or right you end up in an authorion regime with no power for the many.

ToxicWaste,

I don’t know where you all work. But over here it is standard even for ‘unqualified’ work to have at least 1 month notice. For both sides. This gives employers and employees some time to find something new.

ToxicWaste,

Well, that just looks like an unfair system. Both sides need the same mandatory notice.

Cops Used DNA to Predict a Suspect’s Face—and Tried to Run Facial Recognition on It (www.wired.com)

For facial recognition experts and privacy advocates, the East Bay detective’s request, while dystopian, was also entirely predictable. It emphasizes the ways that, without oversight, law enforcement is able to mix and match technologies in unintended ways, using untested algorithms to single out suspects based on unknowable...

ToxicWaste,

TBH: Tech companies are not much different from how you described cops.

They don’t usually bother to learn the tech they are using properly and take all the shortcuts possible. You see this by the current spout of AI startups. Sure, LLMs work pretty good. But most other applications of AI is more like: “LOL, no idea how to solve the problem. I hooked it up to this blackbox, which i don’t understand, and trained it to give me the results i want.”

ToxicWaste,

In the end i want to equip this character with the ancient Falmer armour. But for now she rocks fur and magic ice.

Wot The Fsck You Say, Spotify? (lemmy.world)

Edit: A couple times I’ve said eBook while I actually meant Audiobook. I’ve learned that Spotify has a 15 hour limit per month for their free ‘included in premium’ audiobooks. However these are the two books I listened to for free, and even rounding up to 13 hours it doesn’t make sense, unless they count accidental...

ToxicWaste,

You do realise this is a pirate community? The way yor comment reads, it seems like you dislike OP wanting free stuff.

I am aware of people doing some mental gymnastics to justify piracy. But IMHO that is about the same difference as a pirate to a privateer. Just acknowledge that you want stuff without paying and hoist that black flag.

ToxicWaste,

I don’t know about the laws where you live. But here it is legal to make ‘security copies’ of any medium you bought. If you have to crack some kind of protection, that is an inconvenience.

You are just not allowed to distribute any copies without the proper license.

ToxicWaste,

Keep in mind that this graph shows core temperature. It is obvious to most but it should be written down.

Don’t want someone with little to no cooking experience look at this chart and put his huge turkey for a couple of seconds in the oven at 165°F / 74°C 😅

ToxicWaste,

While I don’t believe in any religion, there is a relevant story in the christian bible. I’ll be writing from memory, because I cannot be bothered to search for it:

There where two coachman travelling on an old bumpy road. Both of them broke their axle an could not continue to the next market. One of them was a firm believer, so he sunk to his knees and started to pray to god to fix his axle so he could reach the market in time. The other coachman jumped of his cart while cursing like a sailor. He copped down a small tree from the nearby woods and made an improvised axle, all while shouting and yelling indiscriminately about his bad luck. Who do you think received more help from god?

ToxicWaste,

Haha I definitely like the middle management comparison here!

I don’t remember the context of the story. But I think it was supposed to be “god helps those who help themselves” - basically discouraging people from being the ones described in the picture above.

ToxicWaste,

I don’t really want to argue for religion here. The way I comprehended the story was basically telling people to not be the ones described by OP.

But if you really want to go into the interpretation stuff: I guess if you wanted to argue for a god, god made sure the cart broke down next to a wood with a tree roughly the right dimensions? Here we are with the part where religion can’t really be proven or disproven. Was it luck, was the whole road just forest…?

ToxicWaste,

I am glad i stopped playing after black flag. Now i remember assassin’s creed as a cool series.

ToxicWaste,

French, oublier: “to forget” or “to loose”. Also a medieval torture device. Look it up at your own risk.

ToxicWaste,

Whenever they show someone killing an animal (usually fishing or smaller snares) they display a text saying something along these lines: all hunting follows local and native jurisdiction. The controversy was due to the kill being a single arrow to the hind leg. Bleeding the animal for about 5h. Afterwards it was finally killed by rushing it at least twice with a knife. So not something I would call a clean kill.

Good point about having to register and tag the kill with the authorities. That would definitely explain the plastic on the carcass.

ToxicWaste,

Thanks. Didn’t know that some locations require animals to be physically tagged.

ToxicWaste,

Let me say that your comment is on topic and a valuable addition to the conversation. I hope you get many upvotes.

Personally I think you should be banned from eating a good cut of meat ever again. The boiled leather of an old worn out shoe should be a feast for you.

ToxicWaste,

Neither the article nor the post are worth anything: They don’t tell any of the interresting parts. What are the temperatures? How long have the temperatures been like that? Why are all the cars at 0%? Why won’t they charge?

Every halfway decent EV has an electric heater for the batteries. As long as there is juice in the batteries it will stop them from falling below a certain temperature to prevent permanent damages. Even if the heating drained all that was left, if you plug it in - the heating can start again. Why is this suddenly a problem in Chicago while many European countries regularly have -20°C and no dead Teslas or other EVs?

ToxicWaste,

Thanks for providing some actual numbers and context.

Sometimes I am really surprised by the absolute laziness of ‘journalists’. Your comment contains more information than the so called article.

ToxicWaste,

Generally you are right. But the article was writing something about plugged in cars which are not charging. IMO noone should make weird statements like this without providing more details. Especially if the person who writes these statements calls themselves journalist.

ToxicWaste,

Additionally I would recommend running Eset on your phone. The free tier allows to scan apps.
