I recently set up a LLM to run locally on my desktop. Now that the novelty of setting it up and playing with different settings has worn off, I’m struggling to come up with actual uses for it. What do you use it for when not doing work stuff?
It’s interesting that they are bringing this f-zero stuff to switch now. They had f-zero 99 and now this. I wonder if it could be signaling a new f-zero game in the future.
you know – this is always represented in the news/etc as ‘a starbucks a day’ but i mean moreso a gadget or a shirt. i’m splurging on deodorant right now. is that immoral? are you meant to have a mostly austere budget until you’re a boomer with a house and a fence?...
No way, I very rarely buy junk that I don’t need. Spending money makes me feel bad. I just buy what I need. If it’s something I REALLY want, then the pleasure of getting that thing might offset the unpleasantness of spending money, but it’s a calculated decision. For example I might buy 2 or 3 video games per year to help keep me entertained, but I won’t blow my money on tons of games I’ll never play during sales. If I see something in a store and think it looks cool or useful, I’ll normally just go home and think about it. I will usually decide that it’s just junk that I don’t need or want. If I really do want it, it will still be there later.

Everyone here seems to be missing the point and haven’t read the article. Nvidia isn’t being targeted because they make the hardware that enables training ai. They are being sued because they trained an ai using the authors books.
When I was in high school, I got a cd burner when they were still somewhat new. Another kid wanted me to burn some mp3s into an audio cd for him, so he lent me his external zip drive loaded up with his mp3.
I feel like zip drives only made sense from around 1995-2000. They filled a gap for writable media at the time.
I have no problem with developers continuing to create new content and give customers the option to buy it or not.
Loot boxes and gambling stuff and types of micro transactions where you are basically paying a fee to avoid artificial annoyance/grinding are a cancer on the industry.
Nintendo is not suing individual developers, they are suing the company that was set up. But besides that, I doubt they took any efforts to hide themselves.
Incredible improvements for a codec that was already far ahead. In the same way that JPEG has been given new life by mozjpeg and jpegli, I wonder how far the JPEG-XL codec is going to be stretched by better encoders in the near and far future.
Every person has good and bad qualities. Things like attractiveness tend to be the first one that people look at, but there are so many more that matter. It all comes down to what matters to you.
For example, someone could be smart and intelligent, but have no interest in the types of things you are interested in. They could have different beliefs about politics and religion. They could have a totally different diet, making it difficult for you to cook one meal to share. They could just be awful with money, or their family might be too intrusive into your life. There are a ton of different things to consider in a relationship beyond the surface qualities of a person
Wtf, they just released stable cascade like a week ago. All they are doing is just confusing the users and model trainers. From the blog post it’s not even clear why I would want to use this one over the other one that they just released.
Commercial fishing just makes it happen at scale a lot more efficiently. If every person who ate fish was out there fishing for themselves, I would imagine it would be a significantly larger impact than the commercial fishing.
Looks interesting, but also somewhat complicated. Now generation has to run through 3 models? I thought it was bad enough having a separate refiner model for sdxl.
“AMD decided this year to discontinue funding the effort and not release it as any software product”.
So AMD decided that it wasn’t worthwhile and so the developer released it on his own. AMDs decisions are just baffling. You still can’t even install Pytorch for rocm on Windows.
Prices haven’t gone up that much where I live, and some of the things that have risen in price have actually started going back down recently. But I guess it all varies from one place to another.
But in general, I shop the sales flyers, I get things that are discounted such as meat that will expire soon, and I get the cheap staples like rice and beans. I stopped buying name brand items and unnecessary snack foods. I also use the Ibotta app which gives me some cash back. Usually not a lot, but over the course of a year it’s meaningful.
