I'm just happy to see more users and more activity. I admin an instance, so I'm not too worried about toxicty, as I can dump any regular sources of trouble
I joined lemmy.ml maybe 6 months ago as I was exploring the fediverse. Fell in love with it, and spun up an instance with my partner. It's been sitting here quietly most of that time, but has exploded recently!
The lemmyverse sounds perfect, but it ignores alternatives like kbin etc. It would be better if we didn't end up with the situation we have with Mastodon where people assume Mastodon is the fediverse....
Why should we just accept that some naïve twitter refugees have misassociated the Fediverse as being just Mastodon?
Because no amount of ideological objection will change the fact that this is exactly what has happened. People are using it this way, and what I was trying to raise here is a way to talk about this particular niche of the web without running in exactly the same problem with lemmy
Mastodon around a year ago. Hopped around to a few mastodon instances before finding alternatives. Been running multiple fediverse instances since then (and none of them are mastodon)
This is the growth of our lemmy instance, without any advertising or spruiking. It was spun up as a test more than anything else, but it seems that it has become more than that!...
We have open approvals. But lemmy still triggers this email. I leave it on so that I can manually track new joins and check them out if they look questionable
We have open approvals, but also emails when people register. It lets me skim usernames and check out new accounts manually, whilst also having open registration
You know, back over in /r/Australia if you even sneeze you get censored. If you ask why you were censored you got banned. Anything apposed to the mods views had you post taken down....
I'm experimenting with hosting my own instance. It seems like things are working, e.g. the steps in the troubleshooting doc work, http routing seems correct, etc. I can subscribe to other instance's communities and see the posts. However, comments are not syncing at all not even new ones. I suspected it might be a lemmy.ml...
It's likely your language settings. Make sure the instance (and you as a user) have undetermined listed in your available languages > This post set to English
(This post was set to Undetermined, and you likely won't see it)
So, dunno if this is a instance thing, lemmy, or just fediverse in general, but im havin trouble subscribin to communities on other instances. for example, !technology returns a 404, while !gaming loads as expected. is this expected?
I've been poking around and I've noticed there some communities on this instance that say they have 5 posts or so, but when I open them, it says there are no posts. I also tried making a post in a community on the instance, and it shows the community as having one post now, but it isn't visible....
And my edits now make me wonder if there is a bug with the reply count. I replied from Calckey, and edited it twice, and it shows 3 comments instead of 1
Edit - Yep, confirmed. Editing from Calckey (and presumably other non local instances) pushes the reply counter up by 1.
Users from before the current wave of Reddit refugees, how do you feel about the incoming monsoon of refugees?
I imagine there's excitement for the increase of activity but worries about the potential toxic side of Reddit coming along too....
what brought you to Lemmy?
I'm just another reddit refugee to be honest
What do we call the Lemmy/Kbin Universe?
The lemmyverse sounds perfect, but it ignores alternatives like kbin etc. It would be better if we didn't end up with the situation we have with Mastodon where people assume Mastodon is the fediverse....
what was your first exposure to the fediverse?
Mine was either mastodon or matrix. I got into both at the same time. What are some other fediverse sites for beginners?
People who live in hot parts of the world, how do you stay cool during your day-to-day life?
I live in the UK, but our summers are getting hotter, and I'm struggling with profuse sweating and mild dehydration....

My email at the moment...
As an Aussie, just posting here to see if I get banned or censored?

What are your opinions on nostr? (nostr.com)
It seems like an actually good alternative to activitypub. What are your thoughts?
Federation: comments not syncing

A question about this instance
So, dunno if this is a instance thing, lemmy, or just fediverse in general, but im havin trouble subscribin to communities on other instances. for example, !technology returns a 404, while !gaming loads as expected. is this expected?
(Solved) Missing comments/posts
I've been poking around and I've noticed there some communities on this instance that say they have 5 posts or so, but when I open them, it says there are no posts. I also tried making a post in a community on the instance, and it shows the community as having one post now, but it isn't visible....
