This is a jellyfin lemmy group, and the way it works (at least as far as mastodon is concerned) is by boosting all posts that tag the group to people who have subscribed by the group, similar to gup.pe groups.
So a spammer spammed the post, and because you follow the lemmy group from your mastodon account, you got the spam boosted in to your timeline, until a mod could step in
I’m not sure how much faith you can put in those stats. My two instances are both defederated from Meta platforms for example, but I haven’t signed the Fedipact. For me, it’s not about Meta itself, but because they house hate groups. If they stopped doing that, I’d federate with them
I don’t see them removing the hate groups any time soon, but as far as my defederation approach goes, that just makes them like any other hate platform on the fediverse. They get blocked and I move on.
Would it be a good idea to have a more accurate (and therefore higher) number on how many Threads defeds there are?
I’m not sure that it makes much of a difference to anything? It won’t change Meta’s approach to the fediverse, and the pact tracker will never have accurate numbers because of people like me and people that that defederate without even knowing the pact exists.
Sure, if this were their first exposure to centralised social media and if they weren’t members of a highly targeted minority that are ongoingly harassed on those platforms.
But this isn’t their first time. They’re here specifically because they chose to get away from the experience that mega instances offer gender diverse folk.
And ultimately if Meta removes the hate, we will then refederate because the hate is gone and if that means some members of our community head back to a mega instance that takes hate seriously, that’s an acceptable outcome to me.
And if they don’t remove the hate (which they won’t), we stay defederated and it’s all hypothetical.
To me, the difference is that the power isn’t in their hands now, even with federation. If they don’t act on something that should be acted on, we can still act on it, even if only for our own instance.
Not enough people talk about the biggest privilege neurotypicals have in academia; the ability to network with their classmates easily so they can stay on top of all important details that are so easy to miss in lectures. #actuallyautistic@autismsupsoc@autisticbookclub@neurodivergence@neurodiverso
Default instance blocks should largely replace defederation
Since what content users might want to see is quite unlikely to match which servers the admins tolerate, choosing instance on the Fediverse can be quite complicated, which is inconvenient and off-putting for new users.
For this reason, and simply that the Fediverse is stronger united, I believe defederation should ideally be reserved for illegal content and extreme cases. If Fediverse platforms would allow instances to simply block the rest for users by default, the user experience would be the same, unless they decide otherwise.
Ask people who face open abuse because of their identity how they feel, and you’ll see that not everyone wants what you want.
If there are people who want me dead, then a response of “tough, you and every other queer person has to block them all yourselves, one by one” isn’t the all in one solution you think it is.
Shouldn't this be "Photos"? All I see are individual photos posted and no discussion or interaction. There isn't even an about section in the sidebar. This really feels like a magazine that was created because someone thought that people would expect it to exist, then abandoned.
Sure, but at the moment, holding out for an ideal of what it should be would just mean less traffic. At the moment, it has traffic and users, and if someone starts a conversation (like you have) then people are more likely to engage.
If and when lemmy traffic gets high enough that the photos make genuine conversation impossible, then maybe it makes sense to cut down on photos posted to this group, but until then, all it would do is discourage participation
Lemmy Admins Are Full Of Shit. They Are Obsessed With Having Power, Silencing Users, Banning Users, And Want To Use A Karma System Like Reddit To Restrict Your Ability To Use Lemmy.
I know I'm being dramatic here, but something just hasn't been sitting well with me ever since I started using Lemmy.
There's just this feeling I get here that the admins have a fucking agenda. And I could be wrong. But I hate bullshiters who won't tell it like it is.
More people need to call admins out on their bullshit. It's getting fucking ridiculous.
And I'm tired of the fucking arrogant attitude that some how running a server and being an admin makes you important in some way as if you're going to be the next elon musk or something. Get over yourselves.
It really feels that there is an ulterior motive based on what I see in the matrix chats.
Admins are not being transparent about there motives.
I'm on pretty much all of the lemmy matrix chats, and all they talk about is restricting the users experience, banning, defederating, purging accounts when they ban them so the user doesn't see why they were banned, and any everything that will put them in a position of power.
I also feel like they have accounts on all the other instances and post other bullshit trying to push their agenda and make these changes seem like a good idea.
Admins, quit fucking bullshitting like you're trying not to be like reddit. Yall seem to wet your panties at the idea of basically being in complete and total control of everything and Ban who ever you want based on your political ideologies.
I'm sure their are some who are not like this.
Im sick of this morally superior attiitude and sense that your beliefs and actions are of greater virtue then everyone else. Yall are smugly moralistic and intolerant of different opinions and its fucking obvious.
Stop being fucking deceitful and tell the goddamn truth.
Please explain to everyone your intentions.
This is just one of many. I attached the rest here. I apologize for any duplicates.
