@ruud@WhoRoger I started to follow lemmy.world from mastodon pretty much at the same time it was launched when lemmy.ml became overwhelmed with loads of users, happy to be here
It’s weird, until Space Karen took over, Twitter used to be the go-to place during any sort of major world event—it’s now impossible to tell real accounts from bullshit so it’s completely useless for this purpose.
The one big thing and outstanding feature they had going for them, utterly destroyed.
@finickydesert no doubt about it!
The same cost of a high end PC, even a Mac!
Hopefully this makes other vendors to start competing more agressively and technology breakthroughs happen more rapidly... And eventually more accessible prices
Just joined, and well, I'm thinking ill stay. Ive been looking for a good reddit alternative for a while now. devs, you've done quite some good work here.
@exterstellar@Eufalconimorph this is exactly the same conundrum with Mastodon, all the technical mumbo jumbo confuses users, simpler words and a quick start experience is everything to really gain traction and maintain engagement during the few first days and obviously over time.... Federation, Activity pub, instances should be Directory, plain and simple
We are happy to see that many of you are exploring Lemmy after Reddit announced changes to its API policy. I maintain this project alongside @dessalines....
@smallerdemon@nutomic it really puts things into perspective not being fed ads constantly, I stopped using Twitter since March and I definitely notice a relief...
Same thing with the algorithms 'suggesting' content: I prefer to browse the content by myself
What is your internet service plan?
How much do you pay? How fast are your your real world speeds? Where are you located?
Who else has been here for a whole month? (lemmy.world)
I took this while hiking with the wife. (discuss.online)
I bought my wife a camera and took her out for some shots
📣 Apollo will close down on June 30th. Reddit’s recent decisions and actions have unfortunately made it impossible for Apollo to continue. Thank you so, so much for all the support over the years. ❤️ (reddit.com)
