my phone line couldn’t handle 56Kbps for some reason

Good old pair gain!

The dial up modem sounds. I don’t know why, but I genuinely miss them

I also miss the reduced footprint of mega companies with their “we are the internet” monopolistic tendencies. They still wanted to be the entire internet, but they weren’t.

I miss when Google’s motto was “Do no evil”.

I miss when Usenet was for something more than downloading porn and pirated content

I miss Geocities and everyone having their own shitty webpage

I don’t miss IRC and netsplits, or images that would load line by line and rearrange your page as they did. I don’t miss JavaScript popup ads or websites that played looping wav files with no easy option to stop them.

That’s an impressive skill :)

Shower thought(?) : some labels are less helpful.

Since starting my questioning journey, I feel like some of sexual orientation labels make less sense. I like girls (a lot apparently). I have always liked girls. Therefore as amab I am straight, I realize one day in the future “fuck it, I’m transitioning” and then I’m not longer straight. It honestly would make a lot...

Your orientation as it relates to you and your orientation as it relates to society are both important. A lesbian and a straight cis man are both attracted to women, but their experiences are very different, so I think having multiple options that we can use to describe our experiences is great. We find power in finding the right words to understand ourselves :)

Often, a lot of trans girls early in their journey of self ownership hesitate to use the label lesbian for themselves, because imposter syndrome is hard to overcome.

But that gets better with time too.

Either way, it doesn’t matter what labels you use or why, what matters is that they are the labels that are helping to empower you and helping you to navigate the world. If they’re doing that, they’re the right labels :)

I could understand it if it were over an actual “fake jailbait”

That community exists on lemmynsfw too…

but it does set an odd precedent and moving away from or prohibiting porn does ultimately hurt community growth

FYI, this isn’t that. Blåhaj Lemmy literally hosts porn and NSFW communities.

It’s the name of the function in Lemmy that is used to delete content

I acted on the report I received, which wasn’t for the jailbait community. At that time, I didn’t even know the jailbait community existed. However, it’s continued existence validates my initial concerns

You asked for an explanation. I provided one. You respond with personal attacks

Rather than just announcing simply “Blahaj has defederated from Lemmynsfw” they made a whole post about it

Alas, Lemmy does not provide a way of making a local only post, or that is how it would have been done.

This is what it looks like…

defederating the whole instance without making it clear that it’s a personal decision and not because it actually hosted anything like csam

I think you may need to have another look at the announcement post

We were clear that it’s not CSAM.

To quote that post

I approached the admins of lemmynsfw and they assured me that the models with content in the community were all verified as being over 18.

The post then ended by highlighting that CSAM was not the reason for the defederation, rather, it was the act of appearing like CSAM

If people report it and it looks like CSAM, I will be.
