Who here is good at partitions? I want to install but I need to shrink my drive

adamw,

@og the installer should be able to do it for you more or less automatically - just go through the 'installation destination' screen with the 'automatic' setting set and it should show you this screen, click "reclaim space" and it should give you a pretty easy UI to shrink existing partitions to create space for Fedora...

Step 5/7 : RUN python3 -m pip install .

Hmm.. So also ships a crippled thing that is not when you dnf install python3.

I was hoping that that was a reasonable alternative to Debian/Ubuntu ☹

@pganssle pip is not part of python. There is no reason it should be bundled together in the core python package.

Honestly, should be the "default noob distro". Ubuntu keeps falling apart and self destroying because of their result of whatever they did to poor gnome (I don't even like gnome but what they did is... yikes)is a broken mess, while each time when I check out anything with fedora for whatever reason it just gets better and smoother each time, almost as if there's people who actually know what they're doing!

Had a complete fail over the last couple of days...

First, I tried to upgrade from 22.04 to 23.04 (via 22.10) and was left with an unbootable system.

I'd also been thinking about trying for some time and so decided to try out Fedora 38 instead of trying to recover my install. I installed it fine and generally think it's a great distro, but it has been SO unstable. Gnome shell crashes on resume from suspend and lots of core apps keep crashing, too. Kinda disappointing.

adamw,
@adamw@fosstodon.org avatar

@benjaminhollon @tomjwatson that's certainly not what we intend. things crashing constantly is not an expected or typical experience; lots of people are running without that happening. if you're seeing a lot of crashes there must be something specific going on to cause it; if you could file bugs for them, it would help us try and figure that out. it is absolutely not 'normal' for a new fedora release to do this.

adamw,
@adamw@fosstodon.org avatar

@tomjwatson @benjaminhollon bugzilla.redhat.com . if things are really outright crashing, you should get reports in the "Problem Reporting Tool" (type 'problem' or 'abrt' into the overview to find it), and you should be able to report bugs through that, which will come with some useful information for us to figure out the cause...
