@aen_the_acolyte, I guess the technical answer is :neocat_sign_no: because recording at 10x sample rate would require a much faster machine. Audio slowed down digitally to 10% would be capped at 2.4 or 4.8 kHz which is like MP3 at 8 kb/s or worse.
@cnx@aen_the_acolyte jokes on you, audio is often recorded at insane sampling rates, sometimes up to 768kHz. Just makes mastering so much easier and also gets rid of aliasing.

i'm doing a masters degree and it has a placement attached to it, so it's an 18-month course
so when i apply for student finance, they give me a payment schedule that goes all the way up to april 2025 because they automatically class it as a 2 year course
the university wanted it all paid within 1 year, but i told them my student finance is more spread out so they changed their payment schedule for me
but now they're saying i can't do the placement if i don't pay in full before august?? like maybe tell me that at the start of the course you fucking arseholes
