So you come into my replies on my instance and then block me.

This is what you think happens:

“Haha, everyone will see my reply and he can’t respond.”

Here’s what actually happens:

  • You piss me off
  • I suspend your account and delete your data from my server so it no longer distributes your reply
  • I post a screenshot of your reply so everyone can see the mental gymnastics you have to employ to defend Israel
  • You learn something new

Screenshot of post by verena elisabeth @verenalettmayer: @aral and i guess you think you are an anti-fascist. sorry,: excluding and bullying a person because of their affiliation to israel is not anti-fascist, but ... You know what. and for 1000 times: no governments participate in the , but independent broadcasters (that's why russia was also suspended, because NOT independent).

@junjo @aral due to the federated nature of Mastodon, that's not even the case. Their content should still exist on the server where their own account is. When they're engaging with someone else on their own server, that's subject to whatever rules that server owner wants to employ: my house, my rules.

I have aurora borealis envy. Missed last night's show but apparently it's supposed to be back tonight. London needs to institute a war-time-like blackout to not disrupt these views. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-68995281.amp

@parkerd Will do, and nice photo. I'm goint to head up to one of the hills tonight I think. London is light pollution central, but there are a few places in my area that may be good to see it from.

The dumbest use cases for generative AI all incorporate rapid commodification. When you have an emergent property with unpredicted and/or hard to control output you study it, you don't whack it into a package to sell it as a solution.

Sort of mind boggling that this story came and went with not much discussion. AccessNow's got a reminder of the absolute horror show that +972 and Local Call exposed. https://www.accessnow.org/publication/artificial-genocidal-intelligence-israel-gaza/

Michelle Yeoh can do literally any role she wants. But if she brings anything like the same energy that she brought in Discovery, I think she'll be an absolute superstar in a Blade Runner show. variety.com/2024/tv/news/michelle-yeoh-blade-runner-2049-sequel-series-amazon-1235993492/

To quote @donmoyn from the Blsky site:
"Authoritarian regimes seek to delegitmate and control aspects of society that are not some measure of independence: That includes universities, the government bureaucracy, a free press, and, civil society. Here Goldberg talks about the growing attack on nonprofits and philanthropic organizations."

The article initially points to a recent Carnegie report by Rachel Kleinfeld, "Closing Civic Space in the United States: Connecting the Dots, Changing the Trajectory."

If you want to see where the U.S. is headed — slowly now given the weak knees of the Democrats, but even more quickly under Trump and the MAGAs — look at what's been happening in closing civic spaces internationally over the last number of years.

Warning: there are potential 2025 spoilers in that report

Everything about Durov's statement is so profoundly dishonest that I feel like engaging in a point-by-point debunking is a waste of time. If most of the messages on your platform are not end-to-end encrypted AT ALL, it is less private and secure than platforms whose messages are all e2e by default.

aiefel,
@aiefel@mastodon.social avatar

@rakoo @fifilamoura @evacide The article he links to is just hot trash by an author working really hard to not to use the term "deep state" when they really want to.

aiefel,
@aiefel@mastodon.social avatar

@foolishowl @rakoo @fifilamoura @evacide These attacks on Signal crop up now and again, and since they're nearly all written by keyboard culture warriors they have nothing to do with the encryption or security architecture, and focus on hurt man feels. And then Durov, Elon, etc. prefer this because they really don't want anyone thinking about the encryption, privacy, or security architecture of their stuff.
