Ok starting a new art thread for 2023! Here's the deal: a mostly daily thread with a different artist every day (sometimes I repeat from previous years if I feel like featuring other work/projects), primarily modern and contemporary since that's my thing. I'm even making a hashtag for it in case that makes it easier for folks to follow. Enjoy!

Works by American artist Dana Chandler, 1960s-70s, a Black Power activist who believed in using art as a tool for change. His most known work is "Fred Hampton's Door" (1970, remade in 1974), which boldly recreates the apartment entryway after it was shot through with dozens of bullets in the FBI raid that murdered the 21-year-old Black Panther Party deputy chairman.

Sculpture of a green and red door covered in bullet holes, with the name "Fred Hampton" inscribed in small print on the lower section
Black and white lithograph of a Black person's fist punching through a white egg
Drawing of a Black man in a jail cell holding the bars of the door and looking pained, surrounded by a simplified american flag design. The text at the bottom says "What Amerika Means to the Black Man circa 1775-1970. Free All Political Prisoners... Today!"
