anarchost,

There’s a new one?

I think they’re both gone now

anarchost,

Actually genuinely good content creator

Ironically the last Sisyphus55 video in this community is one I posted, and argues that giving up on voting is a gateway to fascism

What gets you downvoted?

What sort of post or comment gets you downvoted the most? Especially if you don’t think it’s bad behavior in the first place, or don’t care. Does not have to be on Lemmy, but we are here… One of the good things about Lemmy IMO is that it’s small enough to see the posts that are unpopular. If you do “Top Day” on...

anarchost,

Mentioning downvotes. Or upvotes. The first rule of vote club is…

anarchost,

I too suffer from always being the most correct person in every thread I visit 😮‍💨

@asklemmy How could users Monitise themselves on the Fediverse?

As people possibly move across to the Fediverse to find alternatives, we have to question how people are going to make a living on this amazing platform.

Can it be fully run by donations or is there a better way for people to be paid across the Fediverse?

anarchost,

Only when people can afford to have a hobby.

Or post revolution.

anarchost,

That’s what Nostr is supposed to be for. Looking for ways to monetize decentralized social media. So far, they’ve only imagined cryptocurrency transactions.

anarchost,

As far as I can tell, it was basically intended as a cryptocurrency pushing network from the beginning. Here’s some marketing babble right from their site:

Integrated with lightning [cryptocurrency], Nostr enables new value-for-value business models that have the potential to be more fair.

More PR speak about zaps (cryptocurrency exchanges), wallets, etc are all accessible from the official website.

What are Some Good, Recent, and Available Dumb Cars?

I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla. She’s been my trusty steed for the last 14 years and is in good working order. I recognize she won’t last forever, and if, god forbid (mostly for her) I get in an accident, I will need to get a new car. So what dumb cars do you drive, and what would you replace them with?

anarchost,

Technically? It’s 3 years off from antique.

anarchost, (edited )

Toyota has lost its way, using their “smart” cars to lock people out of features that they don’t subscribe to.

I recommend people avoid them.

arstechnica.com/…/toyota-owners-have-to-pay-8-mo-…

anarchost,

Toyota wants to lock people out of features built into their cars.

Would you say the same thing if they started charging monthly for using the seat warmers?

anarchost,

If a Toyota connects to the internet to receive instructions to disable things built into the car, it is too smart of a car for its own good.

Are you seriously on the “sell my heated seats back to me” train? Because that’s happened too.

anarchost,

You’ve launched into full-on apologia for why dumb cars are bad, this just makes your suggestion look worse

The Anti-Trans Propaganda Film Made by a Cult [Jessie Gender; 2:48:42] (www.youtube.com)

Here’s a disturbing phenonmenon: When parents look for info on YouTube about why their child is transgender, or maybe open a video provided by their trans child, they might see an ad for some anti-trans propaganda. And the propaganda is pretty careful about pretending to be moderate and even-handed....

Take On Me because the rotoscoping work is amazing, and now more movies need to embrace it.

  • closest movie: Cool World, which is basically an avant-garde music video of its own, with people transitioning between the 2D and 3D worlds

Turbo Killer because it has fast cars, violence, and Satanism

  • closest movie: Rock and Rule, set in a furry cyberpunk dystopia “where magic and technology collide”, featuring glowing pentagons and shiny (not as fast) cars
  • second closest movie: Nicolas Cage’s Mandy. Just wait for it…
anarchost,

I love me a movie that can carry itself through aesthetics alone!

anarchost,

Fake. No maximum education requirements, no maximum test score limits.

anarchost,

Actually impressive how much that looks like an alt right YouTube account.

With titles like “you’re arguing with an Israeli bot” and Israeli flags juxtaposed with Pepe, this is exactly the right messaging to look plenty weird.

anarchost,

Maybe, but there’s this tendency with people who post pro Palestine stuff to be totally okay with genocides elsewhere. For example, people like Caleb Maupin and Hakim (who GDF has appeared alongside) are okay with bombing Arab people as long as it’s being done by a nominally non-imperialist autocrat

anarchost,

Anfal Genocide denial

But I’m curious how one swings over from being more and more ML into just being a pure fascist

anarchost,

How is Caleb Maupin any less of an ML than Hakim?

And re Hakim:

anarchost,

Out of all the bad things you can say about Mastodon drama and moderation issues…

It’s pretty cool the phrases “don’t use this instance” and “follow people on this instance” can coexist.

Because of federation, the admins of an instance besides your own don’t even get to peep your IP addresses.

anarchost,

Sure looks antisemitic. For example:

anarchost,

Over 100 comments and nobody mentioned Biden spoke approvingly of a union leader during the SOTU

And even if Trump and Biden were identical in Gaza, there’s also ~20 million LGBT people in the United States and a domestic genocide would actually be bad too (even if Americans are culturally imperialist or something).

anarchost,

Did you figure it out?

For me, leaving the community was enough (but I don’t really want to have to do that, just to keep it from appearing at the top of my New feed!)
